Hello all,

Im still looking for a good nutrionist to help me to learn how to eat better. BUT....I have been kicking butt at the gym the past 3 weeks and I dont know if it is just catching up with me or if Im not getting in enough food or nutrition for how I have been working out. Im not new to lap band but Im new to doing it the right way.....Just when I think Im doing good something happens....sooooo I dont really count all my calories just yet, but I do try to stay concsious with what I intake, I dont know if I am being way to strick or what.....can someone give me advice?

the reason for this post is cause last night at the gym I felt very lightheaded again and weak, my trainer did ask me if I was eating enough, but If i dont know what do I say.....

example of what I would do for a daily meal.

Hot tea, or hot chocalate...sugar free

Advantage Protein drink- chocolate or strawberry

two rice cakes- Breakfast

fruit cup-light Syrup or a bannana

lunch- Soup...tomato, chicken noodle, or vege Soup

yougrt, if i have room

snack- Protein Bar

dinner- soup again...or I did do fish and black eyed peas the other night..

I just was adjusted on thursday 3-2-06, so Im just now back on normal foods.....

To me, you nutrition looks pretty good. However, how hard are you working out? It may be that you need additional Protein or calories. Try logging in on fitday.com to count calories for awhile. It also has a spot to log in your acitivies and calories burned.

You are doing wonderful...Shawn

I had the same problem earlier this week. My nutritionist has me shooting between 1000-1200 calories per day. Well, when I went in to work out on Tuesday, I felt like I could just fall over. We did a quick snapshot of my calories and I had cut back to about 600 per day. He had a fit! That day alone I had only had 300 so far, so he wouldn't let me work out. He said that if you don't get enough calories in, then your body can go into a starvation mode and even though you are eating less, you won't lose weight. He said that I did need some carbohydrates because they do give you energy. I had concentrated so much on the Protein, that I had gone off one end, and forgot about the other. So, I'm back to trying to eat at least 1000 calories and do it balanced. My protein and some carbs. Don't know if this helps you any, but I do feel better getting back onto the path the nutritionist helped me with. Good luck!!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
