I've been feeling and doing great since my surgery and had my bloodwork done for my annual check up, now my thyroid has come back off.. It's now showing that I have hyperthyroidism????

I was wondering if wt loss surgery could cause this?? I had my thryoid checked in March and all was fine, that was several weeks after my surgery. I had a complete panel done a few weeks ago and it showed thyoid being off.. I had them repeated last week and the dr. called and said they are still off... So I now have to have a scan of my thyroid..

It's just odd that all of a sudden it's showing something now after I've had all my other bloodworks being fine..( which I have had my blood drawn for yrs every 3 months and it always came back fine )

Any ideas???/

Why don't you talk to an endocrenologist, they are the ones who are qualified to answer this kind of question.

Afraid not!! my endocrenologist has no idea.. I thought I would ask because maybe someone on here might have had the same thing happen..

But thanks!!

I have hypothyroidism too. I can tell when doses are off. I am thinking its off now. Heart racing lately. I know the signs and symptoms of both hypo and hyper. Maybe this surgery jacks up hormones and changes occur. How long ago did you get banded?

In the beginning of this year my primary dr. had me do some blood work and my thyroid level came back abnormal, i then took another test and the same results. My levels weren't to bad, it came back that I am now hyperthyroid. She sent me to the endocronoligist and she had me do a thyriod ultrasound - with that they saw a small nodule that may be cancerous, but she couldn't really tell from the results. So I then went and had to take an xray pill and then xrays. That wasn't telling her much. She doesn't know what to do. I am not on any medication for it, levels are not that high for it. I am just tired of all the testing and she still can't tell me what is going on. I am now going to the ENT dr. because he will be the one to remove it. Get his opinion on what is going on. She said sometimes they need to remove to tell if it is really cancer, but if it is it is the easiest cancer to treat. She also said it is better to just remove the nodule on the thyroid, then I don't have to always come back and forth for testing. Just zap it with radiation and then it is over. I never had thyroid problems before. After losing 130 lbs. I guess my whole body is off, so it needs time to adjust to weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
