Slow Progression?

Recommended Posts

I WANTED TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE SINCE 8/12/03 WHEN I WAS BANDED. AT FIRST EATING WAS EASY AFTER THE HEALING PERIOD ON FLUIDS AND SOFT FOODS OFCOURSE. THEN I COULD EAT ANYTHING EXCEPT NOT AS MUCH AS OFTEN. THIS COUPLED WITH AN ELABORATE FITNESS ROUTINE GOT A LOT OF WEIGHT OFF ME. IT WAS A SLOW GO THOUGH. I WENT THROUGH 3 FILLS WITH LITTLE RESTRICTION. I WAS STUCK AT 33 LBS LOSS AND FRUSTRATED WITH WORRY ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT I WOULD REALLY PUSH TO GET THIS OFF. MY THEORY WS HEY IF I COULD EAT RIGHT I WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED THE BAND RIGHT. WELL MY DR. FIXED ME UP WITH THE 4 TH FILL. I HAVE THE RESTRICTION NEEDED NOW. 10 LBS IN LIKE 15 DAYS. SEVERE DROP BUT I STAYED ON FLUIDS 3 DAYS THIS TIME AND WELL THE RESTRICTION AT FIRST WAS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. WHAT I AM SAYING IS DO NOT GIVE UP OR WORRY SO MUCH YOU WILL GET YOUR SWEET SPOT. KEEP EXERCISING AND EAT AS BEST YOU CAN. MY OPINION IS CUT SOME CARBS AND FAT NOT ALL CARBS. THIS IS DANGEROUS. IF YOU WANT A TRUE NEW FEELING GET TO REGULAR EXERCISING. I CAN DO 10 MINUTE MILES NOW AND DO 40 MIN. CARDIO MINIM,UM 4X A WEEK PLUS LIFT 3X A WEEK IN DIFFEENT SESSIONS. HEY WE WENT UNDER THE KNIFE TO FIGHT THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE IS GOING FOR EXERCISE THAT BAD?

Thank you! I was banded 10-8-03 and an stuck at 38-40pounds. I have been hard these last few days/weeks on myself about why I did the band and not the RNY. I have done everything the doctor has told me to do and still I'm stuck.. I have posted before and SOME people on here have judged hard and made me feel like that fat kid.. NOT TODAY!

You are so right!

HEY WE WENT UNDER THE KNIFE TO FIGHT THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE- IS GOING FOR EXERCISE THAT BAD?

Hey Bobby,

We may have had the same surgeon. I got mine done in Chattanooga in Aug 2003 too.

I am so glad what you said about the "if I wanted to diet..." I felt the same way. I am trying to go back to the doctor to reschedule another fill. I don't think #2 did much of anything. I seem to be stuck at 35 pound loss. Not that I am complaining, about that, but, I have only lost about 5 since #2 and that was in the first initial 3 days. My hunger is definitely back, and it doesn't seem I can eat anything well unless it is bad for me. I have been craving salty foods. Maybe my iodine is low. I am hoping more excercise and another fill will help me because I have been depressed about the lapband lately. Wishing in some ways I had the bypass

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
