Insulin taking diabetics & slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hey all

I want to know if there are any diabetics out there still taking insulin after their LBS. Are you having a hard time with weight loss and blood sugars? :) Need input....:help:

I am a type 1 diabetic, so I will always take insulin. However, my total insulin usage has dramatically decreased since my surgery. Pre-op, I was averaging around 135 units of insulin a day (I'm on an insulin pump), and I am now averaging around 50-70 units a day. I can't really tell by your post what specific problems you are having, but I'm happy to share my experience with you if you would like to pm me. In short, I've managed by increasing the testing of my blood glucose and drinking juice to bring up any low sugars--although I haven't had too many of those. As it always is with diabetes, it's kinda trial and error. But I have seen a massive improvement. My A1C level was just checked this week, and I'm at 6.2, which is even more of a measure of success to me than the number of pounds I have lost.

Im a type 2 diabetic for 20 years age 42..This surgery was the best thing I could have ever done. Im down from 70 units and two Amaryl and two AVANDIA(Makes me gain weight) to 12 units of lantis and two Amaryl. Took me about two weeks after surgery for my leavels to regulate. First month I lost 20 lbs and I have lost another twenty since then.I FEEL GREAT AND MY SUGAR IS SO MUCH BETTER. I wish it was coming off faster but all in all I am very happy.Down from a size 22 to a 16. I may never be off all my meds but my specialist expects I will be off insulin in another twenty pounds.GOOD LUCK. If you are having trouble losing are you taking AVANDIA OR ACTOS??????? I could eat lettuce all day and still gain weight on Avandia. I have heard Actos is the same.

I was taking Actos and it helped put the last 20 lbs on in record time! I think I gained about 10 the first month. It also caused edema in my ankles, which is very unpleasant and unattractive. One year later and my doctor finally put me on Metformin. Its only been a week, but I am hoping the weight comes off a little quicker.

To answer the original question, this is the first time I have been successful in losing some of this weight. Before banding I was on a steady pattern of gaining 8-10 lbs a year.

I keep getting stuck first 200,188 183, and now 177 I would not mind being stuck at 150. Hope I get there. Are you doing protien shakes still???

How late are you eating? We are close at start size lets keep in touch.I know that I eat too late and that may be slowing me down.

Thanks for all the input. I too have dropped the insulin dosage and would really like to drop it to maybe one shot a day and eventually take a oral medication. :nervous One day at a time though.

I just know that insulin is a hormone. It causes us naturally to gain weight so with the band and taking insulin, it seems to slow the weight loss...to me that is. I am doing the Protein, Water, etc. Eating the right foods...etc. It's one of the "things that make you go ...hmmm".....:speechles

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
