bigenuff 302 Posted June 19, 2012 My best friend is a kaiser patient.I don't know a lot but she is going through 12 weeks of classes .She had to push her PCP to refer her cuz they didn't want to do it.I know in the classes they will try to steer to toward the sleeve of bypass. They say the other ones are better but I think it's financial.Kaiser performs the sleeve and bypass but contracts out the Lapband which costs them more money.Goodluck in your journey . IrinaK 3 Posted July 24, 2012 I am starting out with Kaiser as well! I am having my first "class" on August 14th. Stupid me.... I thought right after the class I get a referral & have a surgery soon after .... After reading some posts here, I realize its a very long process ? Mamato, please let me know what stage are you on now...? I am so lost & dont know what to expect
missband-it 1 Posted July 24, 2012 My mother-in-law wanted the band and went through kaiser. She had to lose 10% of her body weight on her own and then go through 6 weeks of nutrition classes. In the end they said they wouldn't do the band because it's not successful and convinced her to get the sleeve.
RachelC 15 Posted July 24, 2012 Wow, 12 weeks of classes?! That is bananas! I hope that you are all able to get through the process quickly! Good luck!
missband-it 1 Posted July 24, 2012 They basically removed part of her stomach to make it smaller. She only eats a few bites at a time because her stomach is so small, but it's different than gastric bypass because nothing is bypassed or re-routed.
