i was looking online at different pedometers and was thinking about getting the fitbit. it monitors acceleration/steps/stairs/sleep. i think the reviews look pretty promising and it is really discreet which i like. has anyone else used a monitor of sorts to help them stay active and monitor activity after surgery? does it help? do you think something like this would be beneficial to making sure i am active enough since my exercise is sometimes limited? help regulate my calorie intake based on activity levels?

opinions on which are good and whether it is helpful would be great!

Oh no, Lovely Bandette, you said the magic word here. For me and many other's here. The FitBit is the bomb! I had my surgery in late Jan, and heard about this after my surgery. If you go to the forums- Fitness and pull up Fitbit, you will see so many of us who have it and love it!

I know there are other worthy pedometer's mentioned, I believe Body Bugg or something like that but for me, it's definitely the FitBit. Having it and knowing I have it on me gives me the incentive to go that extra step, mile, whatever to see the steps, the activity and calories burned and able to download very easily on your computer and cell. If you do decide to get it, you won't be sorry. Money well spent.

I have a fitbit and I LOVE it...I wear it everyday. When I get home at night ...I walk into my bedroom and without even plugging it in, the charge station will download the information from that day onto your account/computer without you having to take it off your belt (or bra). it's a great device.

I also love my Fitbit! I would probably be the ultimate slacker if I didn't have it to keep me accountable and guilt me into exercise when my stats are low.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
