KimJ384 46 Posted June 18, 2012 I've noticed for the past week I have had pain on my left upper side of my abdominal about an inch below my ribs. It's a sharp pain and it comes and goes...has anyone experienced this with Lapband or could it be caused by something else?
kbliss78 123 Posted June 18, 2012 That is odd bc one of my girlfriends was banded same day as me (5-8-12) and she was telling me she felt that way. She planned to ask our dr about it this month.
TiffanySTwisted 1 Posted June 18, 2012 You're describing exactly where your stomach is located...I have pain there sometimes if I eat too much or eat something I shouldn't. Can you relate the pain to "breaking" a band rule, perhaps?
KimJ384 46 Posted June 18, 2012 I've had my band for a year in July and it just started happening last week so I don't think it's breaking a band rule because I haven't been perfect at all lol. I just got a fill 2 weeks ago and I barely eat anything so it's really not what I eat
sap1021 3 Posted June 18, 2012 Ha, I am the last person to say this because I am such a newbie, but maybe the bands too tight since you say you just got a fill and can barely eat? I use to get those sharp pains before surgery too, I thought they were heart related but after a 2D echo-cardiogram I found out my heart is fine. It could be gas? KimJ384 46 Posted June 18, 2012 I know my band is tight but I am not ever hungry I have to remind myself to eat something or I won't eat. Maybe it is gas I might get it checked out if he keeps doing it just to cancel out anything to do with my spleen or intestines it could be nothing but better safe than sorry. I'm actually thinking kidney stones
sap1021 3 Posted June 18, 2012 Ouch, well hopefully its just gas! Correct me if I am wrong but was it your doctor that allowed you to go mushies 5 days post op. I am almost on my 6th day, and I am SO SICK OF liquids. I asked my doc and he said absolutely not because of losing weight not because of not healing properly. But I am starving for something to chew on. I enjoy chewing by gas tablets. It is so sad.
blpchick 50 Posted June 18, 2012 I doubt it is Kinsey stones because I get those at least once a year and I've never hurt where you are. Typically kidney stone pain is in the lower back on the side and/or in the groin area.
Noturningback15 45 Posted June 18, 2012 I have the same pain every blue moon. I think it's my band choking my stomach!
honk 780 Posted June 18, 2012 Do you still have a gall bladder? Gall Bladder attacks tend to be horrifically painful but everyone is different. They happen esp. after eating a food that has fat.
KimJ384 46 Posted June 18, 2012 Yeah I still have my gallbladder but I thought that might be pain on your right side? And my doc recommends liquids for 2 days then mushies for a day. I don't have any back pain just sharp pain on my left side like where my spleen is.
twi 40 Posted June 18, 2012 Could be gas pain but left rib area is also gall bladder pain area check with your dr and try taking gas x strips with pain to see if it stops pain. I had gas pains on left but not so high
meyouus 415 Posted June 18, 2012 Check with your Dr to rule out anything serious. But you have described what happens to me every blue moon. It is the most wicked, painful, sharp pain right below the left ribs. I can't sit, I can't stand, it's awful. I get this under all sorts of circumstances, so I can't figure out what it is. I went to my Dr and she said it was gas. Man, ALL that horrific pain and she says, "gas." Anyway, it lasts for about a minute or two to ten minutes and then just goes away as quickly as it came. This may not be your case at all, just my two cents. But if it bothers you, see your Doc. Good Luck!
lawgirl 6 Posted June 18, 2012 It might be a pulled muscle. After being banded for almost two years, I suddenly had a reoccurring sharp pain on my left side, below my ribs, that would leave about a minute. Turned out to be a pulled stomach muscle. I went to a massage therapist who specialized in sports injuries. She rubbed, stretched and pushed my stomach muscles like a medieval torture device but the pain went away and hasn't returned.
