Energy Drinks..or 5 Hour Energy

Recommended Posts

ok help please...I have no energy at all I have tried to drink more Water cause I thought it was dehydration, but thats not it. So I would like to start exercising but by the time I get home I am exhausted. So my question is can anyone suggest something that is not a diet pill that I can drink to give me that little boost of energy after work to get a work out in??? Got the gym membership and really want to use it.

I am the same as you. I cannot workout till around 8:00pm at night b/c my husband works out in the morning and I go once the kids are in bed. It is really hard b/c I am tired then and get sleepy after dinner.

I have to have something to help me get it done. I have recently started to like Starbuck Refreshers which are 60 calories but they do not have that jittery feeling from energy drinks but then also dont take like coffee. I want to try a 5 hour energy but I am scared to do so b/c I hate feeling jittery. I am interested in what everyone else will post to this.....

My DH bought a 30 Tube pack from costco I believe called ZipFizz. Zero sugar, high electrolytes. B12 energy drink you put into you Water and supposedly lasts between 4-6 hrs. I feel like other's here re: the jitters and was afraid to try it. I've used them from time to time, actually this past Saturday, and although I don't find they make you jittery, can't say it gives me the energy they say it does. If so, it's gradual at best.

Zipfizz are great...they have them at walmart..you can buy them one at a time..or you can go to costco/sams and buy them in a giant pack. I lurve them.

Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked? I've suffered from chronic fatigue for years, and it's usually because my Vitamin D is so freaking low (last time I had it checked it was 13, the lowest normal value is 30). My doc currently has me on 50,000 IUs of Vitamin D twice weekly that she rx'd me, and then I take 2000 IUs every night in addition. I'm sure I'll have to change that after my surgery, but it's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Prior to taking the vitamin D I would fall asleep at my desk at work constantly, and wake myself up drooling, or having a sleep spasm :o Luckily the only people who "caught" me doing it were coworkers and not one of the supervisors! Now I can make it through the day with no issues - I was/am at a point where even caffiene didn't work, and my sleep doc rx'd me ritalin, and I'd still fall asleep with that!

I agree with Duckydoom - my Vit D level was 8 when it was checked in March. It was so low, my doctor called me right away and had me immediately start prescription strength. I did a whole 8 week course of high dosage and it shot up to 49, now I take a daily lower dose to maintain. Let me tell you, it made a WORLD of difference. I was always so tired, they did a big work up for all these other things but somehow never checked my Vit D until the WLS physician ordered it.

I hesitate to do any energy supplements because I have a history of arrythmia (have had two heart ablations) but I found a nice tall glass of cold Water can get me buzzing to work out. Add in some upbeat songs on my iPod and I'm good to go.

Have you had lab work done recently to see if you are anemic or have a B12 deficiency? Sometimes that happens after surgery. Make sure you get enough Protein as well.

I used to struggle with the same thing. I bought a stationary bike and use it in the mornings. No way could I talk myself into exercising after a 12 hr day. I use 5 hr energy every morning instead of coffee. Love it and no jitters.

Have you also been tested for sleep apnea that will make you really tired. Could you a couple days a week go to the gym and let your husband feed the kids? This way you could work out after work and get home to put your kids to bed. I have to work out before I drive home and have dinner or I will NEVER go back out to exercise. Another option if you have the room is a home eliptical machine etc. You can set it up in front of a TV. My other issue with eating before working out is that we can't drink for an hour after eating. I drink a lot during my work out so I would have to delay the workout even longer until my hour was up.

I had mild sleep apnea, but it was enough to impact my sleep. I had a tonsillectomy and a UPPP done, and I'm insanely glad that's an operation that can only happen once. I was miserable during recovery, but my apnea episodes went from 40 an hour down to 8 or 9. If it's not the Vitamin D, maybe go see a sleep specialist and see if a cpap could help. The only reason I went with the surgery is I was non compliant with my cpap - I knew it was helping when it was on, but short of taping it to my head (we tried everything short of that, straps, cloth ties, etc), I couldn't keep it on. Overall, I'm glad I did it.

It's also a good idea to give going to the gym in the morning a try. I have a Curves membership, and I had gone 4 times in 3 months when I was trying to go after work. I switched it up this week and started going before work, and it's made all the difference. I only get to work half an hour later than I normally would, and I actually get my workouts. I still hate them, but at least I'm doing them, lol!

Good luck!

I tried the 5-hour energy stuff, but it tasted nasty and didn't work for me.

The energy strips seem to work better and no jittery feeling. I get them at Walgreens. They are called "Sheets" brand energy strips. As far as I know they come in Mint, berry, and cinnamon flavs. I just looked at the last one I have and it has a website www.takeasheet.com

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
