Finally! Some Positive Press For Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Let me start out by saying that I don't watch any of these Housewives shows, and I never knew who Lauren Manzo was before I saw this story on AOL. I know nothing of her weight struggles or anything, but I watched this video where she talks about getting the Lap Band and I was pretty happy!

She makes sure people understand that Lap Band is not a magic cure, nor is it the "easy way out" that most people think it is. She also acknowledges that she had the band loosened so she made sure she could eat healthy foods and exercises regularly. I also love that she points out that the Lap Band does not stop you from putting unhealthy foods in your mouth.

Best of all, she says that Lap Band is the best thing that she's ever done for herself :-) I am so glad that FINALLY someone in the public eye is showing that the Lap Band is a positive thing. Way to go Lauren!

That is great! The youngest son (corey?) from pawn stars had it too. In the newer episodes he looks awesome, he's lost a lot of weight!

I don't watch either show (though I have caught ONE episode of pawn stars)...I'm not interested in most reality tv (though I do watch Big Brother).

I love Corey, he's my fave on the show! But you gotta admit, he get's no respect, as smart as he is. Although I don't know what he see's in Chumley.

More on topic.....I am always excited when people in the public eye have had or speak positively about Lap Band surgery and Life. So far, the Hollywood reviews have been positive, let's hope it stays that way! Well, I guess for now, we'll have to be our own Hollywood and tell each other how great Band living can be! Each positive word keeps me going....

i actually watch the show and have since it started and over the years i have related with lauren and her struggle feeling the exact same way, i got a sudden push to look more into lap band for myself because of her. i dont know why i worry so much about what others say but having lauren go public sort of gives me a better feeling about doing this as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
