Hi nade - Thats a great question that I would love to know the answer to. I am 5 days post op and whenever friends and family come over to visit - I have to beg them to not make me laugh too! The laughing is killing me. Its almost as bad as the coughing. :(

I don't remember laughing causing me pain in the early days.

Aren't you lucky to have a life filled with laughter, even with a bit of pain. Hope you can enjoy a good old belly laugh really soon.

:D

laughing causes your stomach to move like coughing does .. hence u feel it hurts... if u need to cough i suggest u hold a pillow over your stomach and bend forward, this will stop your stomach moving and will reduce the pain. Pain on any movement from coughing sneezing, laughing is common after any abdominal surgery, even keyhole like the lapband, so give your self a chance to heal along with your muscles and all will be ok :)

I would like to thank those of you who tried to help me with my laughing pain. I am 6 days post op and it like 80%better. Only time it give me pain now is if I am walking and laughing. At that point I buckle over and hold my stomache. But this surgery did not steal my joy I am still laughing and carrying on as normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
