T Minus 6 Days And Counting

Recommended Posts

Friday is my day. I'm scared. To many thoughts running through my head. The post op pain, changing 40 years of bad habits, getting knocked for the surgery. Worried about being grumpy to my wife and kids after. All short term issues. Have to keep thinking about the long term.

Just feeling agitated from being scared. I can't show it. my daughter cried the other day when my wife brought up the surgery. Feel like putting holes in the wall from being so scared.

Its hard to think about work. Have to prepare for the two Weeks off. Make sure my employees will be able to get by without me at the "helm".

Sorry for the incoherence of my post but my thoughts are all over the place.

JIM!!! STOP!!!

Okay, got your attention? Now that said, I have not been through the surgery yet and like you I am going through all the panics you are right now. And every time I let it eat at me, some one lets me know there is always some one worse off. Lets say this, 10 years down the road, you are faced with open heart surgery, diabetes problems and have to have your eyes oped on, and you think back to this comparably simple operation which you didn't have.? And you wife and child? Now come on! They know this is for YOUR best. SO be a lil grumpy. I am sure they will live through it and be button popping proud of you. Your daughter, although I have no idea how old she is, will grow up and realize what her dad did, setting a great example for her. Job, its just a job and there are more out there!

SO ONWARD JIM!! We are heading into it knowing,,,,,,it cant get worse! :P

A wise man once told me, your fondest dreams and scariest nightmares never come true. GOOD LUCK!

I just had lap band surgery this past tuesday 6/13 and overall feel okay, I had some ladies tell me about cabbage leaves helps with inflammatory issues and I found it to be true....I placed cabbage leaves( google cabbage remedies) on my back and around my incisions and I haven't had any bad issues with gas....I know it sounds weird, but me having gone through tying my tubes, I did not look forward to gas pains like I did...so, so far everything is looking good, I also bought Mylacon drops for the gas....my husband works out of town, so its me and my girls, so I haven't acted like a baby...the help is great, but you will do fine.....it will take a whole month for your body to readjust...I suggest to be loyal to the liquid diet afterwards...I feel like i have a piece of bread stuck in my chest, so I would hate to feel that pain intensify while they vomit...so don't cheat that part ...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
