What Did You Eat/ Drink Post Op Day 1 And 2

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering what you all ate/ drank the day or two after surgery? I understand that I'll be on clears, but I'm just trying to understand the quantities. Ex - whole popsicle or just a bite or two, cup of Jello or just a bite? Also, did you start drinking your Protein Shakes right away?

The first day, I only had a small sip or two of chicken broth. Today, which was my second day, I ate a whole sugar free popsicle. Well, almost a whole one. I don't know if I should have went so far with either of those.

Don't eat if you're not hungry. My doctor has explained carefully that after surgery, you may not be hungry for a few days, which is perfectly normal. In regards to the Protein, I was instructed not to start those until the second week. I'm still trying to figure out if the grumbling my stomach makes is from hunger or gas moving around.

Sent from my Evo.

I didn't have a popsicle until a week after the surgery and I had the whole thing. I hate Jello, but for my pain meds I crushed them into applesauce and had a spoonful about a table spoon and wouldnt eat for the rest of the day. I'd drink broth for a good week. By day three I had eaten 1/2 of cream of wheat. I would'nt push anything.

I was actually "hungry" the day after surgery. Didn't help that the broth at the hospital was unsalted and unedible. So I did not have anything to eat until about 2 in the afternoon when I got home. I had gone about 43 hours without eating. I found stock to taste better than broth. I also added Mrs Dash non salted flavorings prior to heating which also helped the taste. I was allowed Protein Shakes from day one (NO fruit though). Premier Brand premade shakes were nice post op because you don't have to mix them.

I am on day three and looking forward to having a Protein Shake today:) First two days were filled with Vitamin Water Zero and Won-Ton Soup broth. Oh, and I did get down a sugar free popsicle. Tummy is grumbling, but I think they gas has a lt to do with it. When I eat/drink even a little bit, I feel stuffed so I stop. Honestly just ready for my stomach to not be so sore. I am sleeping good at all and only feel good when I am sitting up with pillows behind my back in our living room chair. Hoping every day gets a little easier......:)

That's funny I was hungrier on day 1 than I am now and I am also 3 days out (june 14th). I started Protein shakes the next day so maybe that's why I am not hungry now. I went on an adventure yesterday and took my daughter to the airport...went wayyyyy too long without meds or food and was so cramped up in my shoulders when I got home I couldn't lay down. I guess eveyones different and docs will tell us different things but always listen to your body!

Isopure Zero Carb fruit flavored drinks are great for this time! They come in grape, fruit punch, raspberry, mango, etc. each 12oz jar has 40gm of protein! I drank two of those a day preop and at one a day post op. I got them at GNC.

I ate a whole Popsicle (if not two) each day. My Soup servings were about 1/4-1/2 cup.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
