My Stomach Is "flipped Over" Wth??

Recommended Posts

If you feel that my response was curt that was your interpretation. It was in no way meant like that and if you had done what you advised me to do and really read through you would have noticed that I was concerned about the OP and the fact that a flipped stomach would normally be a medical emergency.

The reason I highlighted the response that I did is that this part does in fact sound like a normal slip. There are a lot of bandsters that are new that read these things and many would read that with total horror and it may in fact put some off being banded.

The stomach pushing up through the band is a normal slip. It happens more commonly than we would like but it happens. Generally it is not a medical emergency.

The stomach flipping below the band is not a common occurence and as the OP has pointed out it does not seem to be related to the band.To me it actually sounds a lot more serious than a slip but her Dr has told her it is not which is good news. I was concerned that she was not getting the care that she should have been getting in the circumstances as her Dr was away .

I am just very thankful that this forum is here for me to be able to talk to other people about things that my "unbanded" friends wouldn't understand.

I don't want to scare anyone and discourage them from getting banded, but I think it's important for anyone considering the band to know everything about it and possible complications. I don't think anyone on here would not agree with that.

I'm sure we all did a huge amount of research and soul searching when we made the decision to be banded.

I never in a million years would have thought this would or could happen....I've never even heard of this before my UGI. I have learned so much in the last week.

I am eating only mushie foods and Protein smoothies because I don't want anything to happen and end up with an obstruction before my doctor is back in town.

I appreciate all the comments, and in my honest opinion I don't think anyone was curt.

My take away from this is that people were concerned. Thank you for that.

Had my EGD done on monday and it showed everything just as the doctors thought. No blockage, but a definate "J" below my band. food moving very slow through my stomach, that is why I am having pain and nausea. Dovtor wanted to start me on raglen, but due to other meds I tKe, that is not an option.

May have to go for injections on my stomach to help food pass, or surgery to release the adhesions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
