Gap Between Lunch And Dinner

Recommended Posts

I did really good today for Breakfast and lunch and I was really proud of myself. I usually eat lunch about 12 o'clock so the problem comes about 3 and 4 o'clock. about 4 o'clock each day I get very hungry but I don't want to eat dinner yet cuz I know if I do then at 7/8I'll be hungry again. Today I messed up and I over ate at 4 o'clock hour. does anybody have any suggestions on what to do between 4 o'clock to 7 o'clock hour I'm thinking maybe a light snack on some cottage cheese or a piece of fruit or something but please give me some ideas.

It is a long time and most people cannot go that long with food. Plan on having an afternoon snack of something healthy. So long as the snack is planned then it should be fine, problems arise when you are so hungry you just grab the nearest thing to hand.

Watery fruit like watermelon and strawberries minimal calorie damage and makes you feel so full. Also special k with fat free milk is my go to snack. cheese sticks and fat free milk. Fiber One Bar and a cup of coffee is good too ...

It's a mind game but if I have something hot like tea, hot chocolate or my go to chicken broth my tummy thinks I have had a meal. Cold stuff just doesn't fill the bill for me

cheese stick, Cottage cheese even adding in a bit of fruit if you want something sweet. I like to keep morningstar farms stuff close at hand and one of their veggie Protein sausages will help.

Part of a Protein shake is good too! We almost always keep some left over from the morning then just hit the blender and it is a quick I gotta grab something NOW to get me over the hump.

Yogurt is a good one, they are handy and you can keep them at work.

You could also grill a bit extra chicken and cut it into small pieces and have a few bites of it. Try to grab the Protein for the snack first, it seems to stop me from wanting to grab junk.

Snack lighter if your going to eat dinner earlier... make it a little more if your going for a late dinner. I think the key is not to get too famished or you will go crazy on your next meal.

You can do something you can be busy about during those times. It's mind over body darling. If you think you are hungry then definitely you will be but if you think that you are not then surely you won't be. It's just a little bit of self convincing. Hope this helps;-)

I completely disagree. To expect someone to go 7 hours without food and say that it is just mind over body is unrealistic. If you are happy to go that long with out food then kudos to you but most people can't manage and band or no band they don't have to. Most Dr's are more than happy for you to eat a planned healthy snack mid afternoon.

Mine recommended

veggie Soup or fruit or a muesli bar or tuna or salad

I keep almonds or pistacios, wheat thins and Peanut Butter in my desk at work. When I start to get hungry I grab a few nuts or spread 5 or 6 wheat thins with a thin layer of peanut butter. All of these are very filling and high in Protein. My doctor and nutrionist recommend eating every 4 hours. I tend to eat 3 meals and a couple of Snacks a day and stay under 1000 calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
