Day 9 Post Op Diet... Did I Do Any Damage?? Comments Please.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was banded June 6th and am on a full liquid diet at the moment. I gave in to my cravings and licked an entire bag of chips (Large Bag)! I know this might sound digusting to some people but I was craving dill pickle and I suppose I got my fix. Did I do any damage? Granted I did consume any chips or solid food but the salt of the seasoning, did that cause my stomach to work to digest??

I also had some ice cream... I let it melt in my mouth before swallowing it. And a bit of a milkshake.... I know these items aren't included in the full liquid diet description mainly because they are unhealthy choices but do you think I've done permanent damage??

Now I know most of you will say why did you get the surgery to revert back to your old eating habits. But that is my decision. My BMI is 27.4 and I got this surgery to help keep my binge eating in check as well to aid in maintaining my ideal weight (when achieved).

I have made the decision NOT to lick anymore chips - my stomach was grumbling a lot during it and I fear I may have caused a band slip even though I didn't eat anything.

I am also wondering if I am supposed to feel restriction on full liquids? I took a look at the suggested diet provided by the clinic and it's only suggesting one cup for Breakfast, one cup lunch, etc. I am consuming approximately 1.5-2 cups of protien shake, and a fat free yogurt. Have you guys experienced this as well??

Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.

You will be just fine! But it sounds funny to lick the chips!! You will probably not feel any restriction for a while it took me until 9.2 cc in a 14 cc band to feel that and it has been 2 months and I not longer or rarely feel restriction. You will see in other posts about the green zone and suff like that! About a month after surgery I even went out with my Girlfriend and had a Ribeye steak with all the trimming but was able to eat only about a quarter of the meat. Its all a learning process you will figure it out as you go!

They're all slider foods and no harm done. You won't feel restriction with liquids unless your band is too tight.

Blood is dripping down my chin from biting my tongue!

BTW-Why don't you just eat dill pickles. It's a slider food and should go down easy.

I'm guessing you didn't do any damage, but it's best to avoid the trigger foods right now because I know for me, some leads to more or an obsessive craving until I fullfill it.

As for restriction, no, you will get to that when you get to solid foods and when your band is adjusted properly. Just make sure to follow your post-op diet plan and work the band correctly.

Amie, I think you will be fine. Also, I think you brought up an important issue, I hear everybody talking about the liquid diet, the Protein Shakes, the mooshy food and we are all too ashamed or frightened to admit we are hungry, we want food! lol In my case I got the band on June 5th, I couldnt go one more day on liquids and I have been eating pretty much whatever I want, yes, if I eat too much I feel like I cant breath but other than that Im ok. But the thing is, I am having horrible cravings for the foods (mostly fast foods) I used to eat. This is something that worries me. What am I going to do when I really have a restriction? I dont want to be like some people Ive read about that eat eat eat and then throw up, yeah I wont gain weight but thats not healthy at all. Is anybody else going through the same?

I'm only one week out and doing pretty well. I have been craving food for a couple of days but ince i drink a Protein Shake and walk away grom the kitchen i feel ok. I have got to get my brain in check and remember why I'm doing this. I am not going to torment myself if I make a bad food choice. I have made many over my 36 years. Now I have made the choice to control myself. I don't plan to cheat. I pray that I can do this with the help of others who know exactly what's going on in this hungry brain lol. Best of luck to all.

I too was banded on 6/5! So glad to know I wasn't the only one who moved to mushies sooner than I was suppose to. I've been eating refried Beans and some cottage cheese and some scrambled eggs... I do feel slightly worried for not following my surgeons instructions as I know they are set in place for a reason.

I too hope I haven't done any damage by.moving to mushies before I was suppose to.

My dietician and dr moved me to mushies on day 7 and I actually started day 5, the dietician had said that between days 4 and 7 most bodies are ready for mushies in our seminar. All dr's and dieticains are different obviously. You will be fine I'm sure. When my dietician said it was fine for me to eat mushies she also said no more liquids with calories except for a glass of milk occasionally and for a special occasion but no more Protein Shakes, juice, or Tomato Soup. Like I said, funny how each office has different ideas.

I've been having a Protein Drink that is clear and has 160 calories that I sip on throughout the day. I believe that this keeps me full over the course of the day and pray that my doc doesn't take it away!

Hey guys glad to know I am not alone on this hunger journey. Today I had some poached eggs and they kept me full till now. Not hungry a bit. I have lost 12 pounds since June 4 th when I was banded. But I have not lost any since the first week. A little frustrating. Is anyone else on a standstill with weight loss? The first 12 pounds I lost within the first 5 days. I also started eating mushed foods earlier this week. I did try a piece of grilled chicken but only managed to eat two pieces before I was in pain. Took a couple of hours for the pain to go away. But it eventually did.

Are you supposed to be on solids? I was not allowed solids until week 5.

chicken was on my list is stage 3 foods. Even tender roast in little pieces and steak if it's super tender. The last stage for me is uncooked veggies and I'm guessing nuts? And since I was banded 6/5 the dietician told me the last stage I can start 7/5.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
