Surgery Soon, Need Support

Recommended Posts

Hi Leener,

I sent you a few private messages w/ my phone number. I was in your pre-op class and understand your anxiety. I asked Linda for a xanex and that really helped. I took one the night before and one the morning of surgery. My surgery was March 7th and I'm doing well.

The pre surgery stage was the worst for me, psychologically. Once I had the surgery, it was such a relief that It was easy to endure the physical discomfort.

Best wishes for your surgery in the morning Lenner girl. I'll be thinking about ya, and smiling. You'll be sore and stiff for a while so take it easy and be good to yourself. Don't forget to remind everyone around you in the morning about any special needs you have before they give you that lovely IV!

I am SO looking forward to welcoming you to Bandland! *clank*clank*clonk*clank*

Leener, you are indeed in good hands with Dr. A and we are all here rooting for you. Tell him that Alex and Ali said he'd better take extra care with you!!

Good luck, lady, and remember that stress is self-fulfilling in people with panic disorders. Just leave it all in a box by your door when you leave in the morning. Don't take it with you.

You'll be home before you know it, and banded!! :D:) :)

leenerbups: Guess when I started my period?? Yes, the very morning of surgery --5am!!! I had to tell the nurses, let me go to the bathroom RIGHT BEFORE I go in, okay? And, I had my little "cosmetic" bag with my supplies in it. GHEEZ, I'm SURE noone knew why I had it hanging off my IV pole!!??? But, you know what, it bothers YOU more than anyone else. Mine are very VERY heavy the first 2-3 days and I tend to be anemic under stress (like surgery), but I did just fine. I don't have asthma, but I actually still had a cold/cough when I went into surgery. They said no problem as long as no fever...and they were right.

I agree about informing people on your specific needs. Don't assume they'll read it in your chart. If you need an answer, ask a direct yes/no question. That way it is very clear and you KNOW they know. I don't tolerate artificial sweeteners and Atkins shakes have it in them. When I switched to Ensure and Boost, I felt a world better.

Scary, yes. Nerve-wracking, yes. Uncomfortable, yes. Roller coaster emotions, yes. Ultimately a smart decision for a healthier, happier, longer life....ABSOLUTELY!!!

Oh and if you're scared or claustrophobic, DO LET THEM KNOW. They can't assist you if they don't know your needs. Tell them what would ease your apprehension or make things better for you; I'm sure they will try to do all they can to keep you comfortable and at ease.

Nanster

Hey everyone! I can't believe I am banded. It's weird how you wait for something and then the day comes and then it's past you.

I really have to give wach of you a huge cyber hug, you have been incredibley supportive of me and I mean it when I say I appreciate it SO VERY MUCH.

Guess what? I got my period DURING surgery. I put a pad on before I went in with those horrible surgical panties they give you. Now here is the weird part...the pad was missing when I woke up.

:omg:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
