I hope I didn't make a mistake today. I went with my hubby to the store and he stop at the snowball stand and I got a small suger free snowball and before I notice I had maybe 4 sips out of the straw :-( I forgot. I hope I didn't hurt my band. I had my band put it in on 6/5 .

I think you should be fine.. but when in doubt call your surgeon.

A snowball is like a snow cone, right? I might be wrong but I think it's still considered a clear liquid, so I wouldn't be too bummed. Especially if it was sugar free. Relax, I'm sure you're fine!

Yes it's like a snow-cone and only had about 6 bite but I drink some the juice and got some air through the straw. I'm feeling fine and I'm not hurting :-) just can't believe I did that :-(

don't worry about it... if you're not burping gas bubbles, you're fine. besides, the rule is to help you be comfortable, not to freak you out...

What I am more concerned about is you drank the sugar free snowball, lol. Every flavor I have ever had is terrible! I like the sugarfree banana pops, but they obviously use something different in the syrups...just can't go there :b

sounds fine to me, it's just a liquid and if it's sugar-free then it doesn't even have any calories.

This is a big learning curve, but you also still have to live.

Enjoy and don't worry!

I am almost two years out and have avoided straws. I've been buying black ice coffee and pouring it into travel mug. I did not have my mug one day and decided to just use the straw. Two sips and I got pressure in the middle of my chest. Lesson learned.

I drink out of straws all the time. I was never told to avoid them by my doctor. It doesn't cause me any discomfort.

I've been drinking from straws everyday for the past year and have never had a problem. I avoided it the first couple of weeks while I had the gas pains from the surgery.but after that no problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
