My First Fill 06/15/2012

Recommended Posts

You know what is sad.. most people post about their first fill and how scared they are and nervous about if it is going to hurt or not being able to find the port. I am scared the step on that big metal plate and see the numbers appear on the scale. I think that is the worse part of the journey. I know that I have lost a lot of inches... I am just so worried with the increase in my appetite and no fill right now, that I have gained weight and that is the last thing that I want to see. I know we say don’t worry about the number but it is so hard. I just want to see those digits drop! I can't lie though as much as I am worried about the numbers I still am a little nervous about the felling of the needle. But, it is what it is. I am so excited to have some restriction going back because I don’t have much now. Can’t wait for that GREEN ZONE!!!!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I had my surgery in October 2011 and as of May 17th had gained 25 lbs. I was upset but I knew that I could and would get that weight off. As of today, I have lost 17 of those pounds and I can say it was due a lot to the last fill I had. We have to remember that this is a tool and it is a process. We didn't gain the weight overnight and the weight will not come off overnight. Give yourself a break and when you weigh in, make a plan and plot your course. You can do this!

I had my first fill today and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. As for the weight loss, I know how you feel but don't be so hard on yourself. My surgeon told me the first 6 weeks is about healing, and eating when you are hungry. It's incredibly hard to lose anything when we are constantly hungry, and some say it takes several fills to reach the green zone. Focus on the positives -- exercising regularly, making better food choices, Portion Control, etc. The weight loss will come.

  • My doctor put me on a 1200 calorie a day eating plan. I wrote everything down that I put in my mouth. He wanted me to get at least 60 gr of Protein and less than 70 gr of carbs per day. I went in for my fill on Wednesday and in 4 weeks I lost 10 lbs. It will come off you just have to be a good eater and eat the right foods. No more fast food or junk food for me and it paid off. Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
