I just joined today. So far, I've been approved by my insurance for the lap band except for a letter from my primary care doctor about one of my medications. Last week, I had my first consultation and a physical. I have my psych exam & meet with a nutritionist this coming Monday. What should I expect from these appointments on Monday? What comes next?

I am a Type I diabetic. I know that I will always have diabetes, but I hope that losing weight will make my diabetic complications fewer.

I am a teacher and I am hoping that I can have the time consuming part behind me before I go back to school in the fall. I hope this is possible.

If your already insurance approved things should move along pretty fast. The psych evaluation if they do it the same will be in test format. They will ask questions and then later in test they will ask the same question and maybe reword it slightly. All sorts of things but nothing that is overly strange. The nutritionist should be fine as well. I had to do a sleep apnea study overnight, a pulmonary test, think they did a chest xray, but I did the sleep test then the next morning went straight into the other testing right at the same location.

They might not require all those since your insurance already approved. My guess is that you will be scheduled pretty fast and heal up before school.

Thank you for the information. I think there was something mentioned about an EKG. Don't know if they'll do it Monday or on another day. I have sleep apnea and a CPAP machine so I don't have to worry about that.

I'm getting very excited about doing this. I hope that I don't have to do the pre-op diet for very long and can get going ASAP.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
