I get shoulder pain when I'm too full. So I make sure I weigh my food and portion it better.

Oh my gosh! I was just coming on this website to ask what I should do about my left shoulder? I had surgery 6/5 and its been going on the past two days. I can tell its something to do with eating but no matter what I eat or drink it shows up. I tried a rolaid but wondering if I should try gas-x or pepcid or something? Any ideas? I might have to go back to the pain med too. Rats. I even went and did elliptical last night for 20 minutes hoping movement would help but no such luck.

Sometimes walking with my arms above my head with the muscles relaxed helped.

I have never had shoulder pain, but since my revison back in Nov 2011 I have severe pain along my ribs, and muscle spasms in the same location. What really works for me is a muscle relaxer and heating pad and rest.

If you're more than several weeks past surgery and you have left shoulder pain, then it is most likely pain associated with your band rubbing against your diaphragm. It's called phrenic nerve pain. Some people get it after eating too much. Some get it depending on the position they're sitting/standing/lying in. Some never have a problem.

It's amazing how many WLS surgeons are clueless about this or perhaps just won't tell their patients because they're afraid they'll decide against surgery or will want the band removed. I finally had my band removed after about a year and a half because the pain just kept getting worse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
