Hi Everyone! New Here...

Recommended Posts

My name's Amy, I'm 30, have a BMI of 31...and am having surgery tomorrow (Eeeek!) had my bloods done today, now waiting in a hotel near the hospital (Dolan Park near Birmingham, UK) . Great to find a place for other low BMI bandsters....worry that other people find it a bit annoying that I have only 50lbs to lose....though it seems plenty to me!

Hi Amy, I'm curious. Are you a self pay or will your government run healthcare system pay for your surgery? It would be difficult to for us Americans to have any insurance pay for this unless the co-morbids were extreme.

My BMI was around 37 and here most docs won't do the surgery if it's under 35. Although, I find it hard to believe any doctor would turn away $10,000 on a technicality like that?

Look forward to you posting your progress, complaints, advice and concerns.

Hi! I'm self pay. The national health service will pay for some operations but you usually have to have a bmi of 40 or over, and there can be a long wait. The cost was £4995...which I think may be less than it costs in the US? (not sure about currency conversion at the moment!)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
