Pre-Op Diet Leaving Me Skeptical About Success W/band

Recommended Posts

The pre op diet is nothing like life after the band. While we all follow the same basic rules, different things work for different people. Personally, I refuse to live a life of deprivation just because I have the band. I'm going to make good choices the majority of the time, but I am also going to allow myself treats in moderation. I am not giving up my social life. However, like the above poster said, the band can't do all the work for us. You have to be willing to exercise and make better food choices or it wont work. As much as we would all like fast results, weight loss is only 1-2lbs a week with the band.

Yep, and bypass will take some work as well. There is no magic cure for obesity for most people it will be a work in progress their whole life. You'll get out of it what you put into it.

The bypass takes a lot less work though. I still think the band or sleeve is a better option overall but for people that aren't going to put much work into weight loss bypass is a better option IMO. Bypass is a set it and forget it surgery. Hopefully they set it right the first time. The band takes more work. You have to constantly get fills, there are constant hurdles such as heartburn, being too tight, being too loose, etc., along with adjusting diet to lose weight. The band is a good tool. However, if you give me the raw material to build a deck I'll do it. Some people are never going to build a deck no matter how many tools and materials you put in front of them. Some people are just better off buying something premade from the internet and hoping it ends up working for them. I talk to people all day in chat that honestly should not have gotten the band. The pre-op diet is tough...but if you're questioning the band before you even get it and think it's going to be too hard then it probably is.
