Seminar Thursday Afternoon

Recommended Posts

Going to my first seminar this Thursday. I am ready but scared at the same time. food security blanket and all that. Doesn't help that I am a professional chef also so I have questions of how this will affect me professionally also because there truly is nothing I would rather do than cook. But I hate crawling up my stairs after a rough day running all over hell and back from my feet hurting, not knowing if my knee ( which I have wrecked a few times falling at work places) will buckle on me, or if my back will go out from my degenerative disks. And I have just hit early thirties. I just want to get off the painkillers and stop being exhausted all the time even on my days off.

I went to my first seminar a week ago today, and it was so informative and exciting. It makes you happy to even think about choosing to look into lap band. There is so much useful information and the surgeon was ready to answer everyone's questions. I had a ton!

Thanks guys, it was a good seminar, though it was about all the weight loss surgeries, not just the band. The doctor didn't really go into too much about the band, the over view on would say. He is a sleeve fan but he did say that he recommends getting just the band if you want kids because of nutritional concerns for the baby with the others. Which is fine because that is what I wanted any ways. It was a "positive" seminar so not a lot of negatives were really discussed, and I think I was the only one there out of like 30 people taking notes about all this stuff.and only about 4 of us were asking questions. What is nice is that the Dr. Is admit about seeing his patients for the rest of their lives ( or having them see a surgeon that he refers when he tires) "we will track you down and do follow ups" so that is nice. And he said that if we start down this path that we would be doing a lot of talking to each other, and that should clear up any questions. So I made my PCP appointment for next week for my referral and my letter of recommendation but might have to wait until August to see the dr because he is taking July off. I am ready, scared..nervous, but very ready. I am tired of being in pain. I am 32 and I have told many people that if I was a horse they would have put me down a long time ago because of how much of a wreck I am with my knees and back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
