Nervous About Procedure 6/15/12

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is this Friday. I am feeling really nervous and afraid. I keep thinking about the risks associated with the surgery. Did anyone else feel this way? and What did you do to not think negatively?

well well you are wasting a lot of energy... letting your feelings control your thoughts.... you've got it backwards ..think of what a decision you've already made .Like Depack Chopra says just say shift to your negative thoughts... great day Friday... Prudence

I can't help myself, I'm terrified of going under even though I have had a number of ops. I think the best thing to do is remind yourself why you are doing this, how much healthier you will be in the long run and how much less risky it is than remaining obese.

I know is hard not being nervous but I agree the best thing is to focus on the positive. Think that the surgery day will the first day of your metamorphosis. You will start a journey that will transform your entire life.

Good luck on your sugery, everything is going to be fine. Please keep us post on how you are doing.

My surgery day is July 18, I will like to ask you what is the pre-op diet.

It is totally normal to be nervous. Just think about where you'll be a few months from now when you're losing weight, getting healthy and feeling good!

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. This is a major surgery and you are embarking on a life changing journey.

Try not to let your worries take control, acknowledge them as normal, be sure to ask your surgeon, anaesthetist etc any questions that are really troubling you.

But also plan how to cope with the days following, with the gas, liquid diet, pain (low level and short term!) and you will be on course for success.

You will do great and I can't wait to read about your after! I am getting nervous about mine BUT I also know that my dr. is competent and I felt peace about making this decision so I'm just trying to shove that aside. I'll keep you in my thoughts tomorrow. Best of luck to you!

Well I must say I did a lot of worrying for nothing. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am, registered, went right in the waiting operating rooms, they took my vitals, hooked up my iv, gave me meds, the surgeon came in and then the anteslogist (sp?). By that time it was close to 8 am, then they walked me to operating room and it was over by 10:30. I remember waking up and then I did an x-ray, then I urined, and my vitals were okay and I was released. I was home by 1:00 pm.

I've been up walking around and I keep drinking lots of Water. I just tried drinking some broth and that was great. I am not in too much pain, just my shoulders feel sore and a little pain around the stitches. Otherwise, I feel real good. I've just been thinking how it's going to be for the full liquids stage next. Thanks for all of he support

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
