I am having my first fill next Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone has tried putting an ice pack on the port before having the fill. I am really nervous about the fill. I really don't even like to feel the bump where the port is.

Also, I have probably been eating no more than 1000 calories per day. But, I haven't lost any weight. I lost my original 10 pounds, but I feel like that is mainly just Water weight. How is is possible to eat that little and not lose any weight? That is so much less than I ate before. I am eating Protein (mainly fish and eggs) and vegetables. The old me would eat at least one if not two candy items per day. You would think even without the band I would lose eating so much less. I am hoping to lose 10 pounds by August 16, but at this rate, that is not going to happen.

Any suggestions?

Sandy

o.k... here is what i did to move my weight.

at times Ive had no loss, so i vary the calorific intake every day. some days i may have about 200 more ..so thats about 1200.. other days i will have about 900.. im not counting but thats a general thing.

I wasnt losing for a few weeks, now im losing quickly again. I think so long as you are mindful of the food you eat, no junk, that you could perhaps vary the amount of calories you are taking in. i wouldnt lose any weight if i were just having 1000 a day ... so im either side of it all the time.. some days more some days less.

As far as the fill goes... its a breeze... trust me. It took about 3 seconds for my first fill and i honestly never felt a single thing. Dont worry about it. Good luck.

IF you have already lost some weight then your body needs a chance to catch up, you cannot expect to lose heaps all the time. There will be peaks and there will be troughs.

As to the fill they are really not bad at all. No worse than when they take blood. It's a quick jab and then it's over. You probably put yourself through more pain on a regular basis plucking your eyebrows or getting your legs or bikini line or whatever waxed.

You won't need an ice pack. I have had several fills and they truly don't hurt at all. If you have ever had blood taken, then this will be a breeze.

Without knowing your weight or height, you may not be getting enough calories in to lose weight. that sounds strange, but if you are not fuelling your body adequately, it will hold on to what it has. There is no one number of calories that is right for everyone. It depends upon your height, weight, activity level and weight loss goals. Try logging with a site like www.myfitnesspal.com

i certainly didnt need an ice pack. i remember, the dr asked me to raise my head off the bed. He put a swab on my port, whipped it off again and within 3 seconds i had a painless fill. it was that quick. no ice pacs.. a little bit of discomfort at night but nothing much at all....its a breeze.

Great question. I don't get a fill for 3 more weeks. And I think I am more worried about that than losing weight. When I feel my stomach I can feel my port & it makes me quezzie (seriously throw up style). Not sure why. Maybe the idea of a foreign object in my body. So glad to no that a fill is not painful. If I can get a bikini wax I can handle a fill (lol)... Whew

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
