Terrified To Get My First Fill This Week!

Recommended Posts

I have my first fill on 6/14 and I'm so scared. I am afraid of needles and it hurting really badly. I know that's silly considering I just had surgery. I guess I need some reassurance or an idea of what to expect. :/ will it be painful, will I be throwing up after the fill, will I need to be on liquids before/after?

You will need to be on liquids for a day or two afterwards, incase you swell. You shouldn't vomit though. If you do vomit, get back to the doctor for a slight unfill.

The fill hurts a bit, but just at the skin. We don't have the same kind of nerves in our fat, as we do in our skin. The sensation of the needle entering the port is weird (mine is like a crunch, yuck!).

Let them know that you are nervous. Good luck!

I go in on the 14th as well but not my first. I'm not sure if the needle they use for the fill hurt or not because they used lidocain to numb the area for me. You should not throw up but you will have a shorter version of the post-op diet after the fill. I had to be 24 hours on liquids then 24 hours on mushies and then back to regular foods. If you have a fear of needles ask for the lidocain and turn your head away until it is over. Good luck to you.

My doc numbs the area before he sticks the needle in. Then he has me sit up and hold it while I drink some Water. It doesn't hurt at all.

It's a piece of cake. I never even feel it when I get fills- not even a pinch. 30 seconds and it's done, it's that quick.

Just be sure to take a big gulp of Water before you leave the office, this way you can be sure you're not too tight.

I was VERY worried about my first fill too (I had lap band surgery on April 9th) and just had my first fill on June 6th. I was literally with my doctor for five minutes, and NO pain and he did NOT numb my stomach. I have a pathological fear of needles but this was the easiest thing I have experienced thus far in this new journey. Good Luck~!

Thank you for all the advice guys. It makes me feel a lot better knowing what to expect. I will let the dr know about my fear and hopefully she will be gentle with me. :-x

My doctor had me lie flat and then lift my head up. I felt nothing...not even a pinch!

I had no throwing up, I was careful the first few meals, after 2 days of liquids I made very

mushy tuna fish with a little fat free mayo and lemon.

Well you guys were totally right about the fill. It was uncomfortable and a weird sensation, but definitely not painful. I didn't expect to feel this weird after the fill though.

So glad I've gotten the first one out of the way.

Mine doctor does this too! The only part that Hurt was the numbing medicine going in!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
