Husband And Wife Banded At The Same Time

Recommended Posts

I am just getting started learning about Lap-band surgery. Both my husband and I are over weight and have obesity related health problems. I was wondering if there are any other couples out there who have been banded at about the same time. I am sure I want to have this done but my husband seems to be a little hesitant about the surgery. He has never had a surgical proceedure done before. I would like any advice you have.

Well i can speak from a guys point of view. I was hesitant at first too. The whole macho thing invaded my brain as well as feeling like I would be a failure for going that route.

After the fact i am very glad i did it. For me there have no compication and only positive results.

The surgery itself was a bit scary too. I have had many surgeries in the past on my knees, 11 in total. However, i have never had anyone in my gut poking around and that scared me for sure. But, i plowed on and am happy i did it.

I hope this helps him with his decision.

One thing to note though. This is no wonder cure for obesity. You have to put in the effort.

By the way i can't see any reason why you could not both be done at the same time. The recovery is really not much to write home about. A little bit of discomfort most from the gas. SO you can help each other out.

My husband and I both had our lap band surgery done on march 9th, 2012...he was a little hesitant at first, but I made all the arrangements and he just showed up to all the appts, I think it was easier for him that way. Just make sure you have someone to check up on you during the first couple of days since you guys will be too sore to do any bending. And once he see the weight start coming off you will have to do very little to twist his arm to go for the filling appts.

I think it was awesome that we did this journey together. We had the same pains, the same scars, the same dilemmas, and success.

There has been definitely a stronger bond between my husband and I, because we did this for the same reason, to be and live a healthy lifestyle for us and our children.....

Meridy,

My husband & I bother were banded this year approx 8 weeks apart. Originally they were scheduled a week apart but he needed arm & wrist surgery first. We are both elated that we took the plunge and did it. The surgery for us was not a problem at all. Our doctor requires us to stay overnight to make sure there are no blook clots after surgery. Other then that, we got into the post op liquid diet, then mushies and then onto solids. It's a life changing journey that must be well thought out beforehand. Many changes from old habits to new habits. We're learning to find other things that take place of food being the end all to everything. {we dropped our daughter off at the airport yesterday and my husband wanted to know since we were near Atlantic City did we want to stop there and or get something to eat.Just something to do to kill the time since it was 4pm. #1 we don't gamble, ever, and #2, no need to go out for dinner for steak right now. So we came home and just hung out, read, then walked the dogs. We would do it all over again!

My boyfriend and I are going through this together. We aren't banded yet, and it was actually his idea to have WLS. At first I was hesitant, but I looked into it. And while I was working out at 5 in the morning with a personal trainer I was in the middle of 20 something push ups ready to pass out and it finally hit me, it shouldn't be this hard. I shouldn't have to work out for 2 hours every day this hard to look how I want. Something else was the problem. So that's when my research went into over drive. And now I'm addicted! My boyfriend however is not, it's not that he isn't interested, I just think he doesn't know what to look for. So when I would try to tell him about my daily "findings" he didn't seem as interested as I was. Once I scheduled our first seminar he seemed more interested, and once we attended that seminar he told me it felt more "real" to him. He thanked me for doing everything and now we just await our appointments and surgery.

My boyfriend was the one that wanted us to do it together. He wanted it to be something we shared, and now that's how I feel. It's going to be a wonderful journey, it has been so far.

I think that if you both want it, then it's more than doable. I just want to stress not pushing your partner to a decision they are not ready to make. Some need more time to really think about it.

I would think it would definitely be beneficial to do it together! You will have the support of each other, and you will both have to eat the same way so I would think it would be much easier than watching your spouse chow down on a big plate of Pasta while you can't eat it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
