Cpap & Lapband Stomach Pains?

Recommended Posts

Heya everyone,

I just re-started using my CPAP machine last night after just over a week from my LapBand surgery. (6.4.12)

When I woke up this morning I had a moderate amount of stomach pain. I didn't get any gurgles or noises but I had the impression that it was trapped air/gas. Once I started moving around, taking my morning meds, vitas & drank my morning shake I (not to be crude but) passed gas a couple times and the pain subsided quite a bit. Of course I can't remember the why's & what happened. Just that it had happened.

I beleive I had a similar problem a while back but it wasn't this painful. (Not enough to make me double over or stay home from work.) But enough that if it didn't go away, I would have stayed home from work.

Does anyone have any experience or advice they can share with me about CPAP's & a LapBand causing problems together?

Thanks in advance, icon_confused.gif

Matt

Hi Matt,

I have never heard of anything like this. I used my CPAP immediately after surgery and had no issues. I did have a lot of gas cramps for about 3 or 4 days but it passed and it's normal but I saw no relative correlation to the CPAP. Are you using a CPAP mask that is forcing the air into your mouth? Maybe that is causing a problem. I only use a mask that covers my nose. Might be a good idea to check in with your Doctor.

Good Luck,,Jim

Yep. I recall my wife telling me a number of times, the knockout gas that causes pains around the body including the shoulder. Since I had a heck of a time relaxing enough to sleep through the night, I didn't feel like wearing it. But we use a fan to keep cool at night and mainly as a White noise sound block. And the fan messes with my sinuses enough that I get headaches. (Sucks waking up with a headache.)

Congrats on your current weight loss! :)

Thanks Matt. You also, You're doing fantastic. My wife and I do the same thing with the fan and I think I am one of the rare people who enjoy wearing the cpap. I like the crisp cool air in the sinuses. I find it refreshing and almost like a cool winter night. Very relaxing....

Jim,

You sound similar to what I enjoy. For some reason our (bedroom) or house seems have keep very dry and until I started using my CPAP I started getting better nights sleep in terms of not waking up with headaches or after getting up in the morning or getting nose bleeds.

As soon as I got the CPAP with the humidiy option, that all stopped.

Matt :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
