Pose

Last year I actively considered a LapBand but ended up rejecting it for a variety of reasons. Recently, I heard about a new procedure that may be the answer to my prayers, POSE. It's more common in Europe - I think there's only one clinic doing it in the US (in Louisiana). I'd appreciate knowing if anyone here knows about it and can give anecdotes/advise/etc.

Sounds like some form of plication. I would want more results before I put myself forward as a guinea pig. Plication is not really reversible as the stomach is likely to form scar tissue where it is folded in on itself.

Why do you think this would be a better solution for you than the band?

The biggest problem for me with LapBand is the food restrictions. The POSE procedure reduces appetite and, apparently, reduces hormone release that can cause cravings. But, most importantly, there are no food restrictions. Another great thing about POSE is that there are no incisions and it's done as an out-patient procedure.

I don't know much about plication. I'll do more research.

For most...lapband is an outpatient procedure. My starting weight is 265. I would be satisfied if I just lost 70 lbs....(very obtainable with the band).

I know that within a couple to few years most bariatric units will also do the plication with the lapband...would be interesting to see more long term results with it to see if it has a higher success rate than with just lapband....

this incisionless procedure just sounds like a temporary fad to me.

FYI - I've found another clinic doing the procedure: http://www.floridaincisionless.com/ - they do additional anchors in a procedure they call WiFi. The more I learn about this procedure the more excited about it I get.

This seems interesting. I will be curious to here more about this procedure as it seems fairly new and long term effects are still not known. I understand lapband isn't for everyone so I hope that you can find a prcedure you are comfortable with and have great success with it :) Just fyi, I lost all of and then some of my extra weight with almost no exercise, eating what I want, and having only experienced actual physical hunger a dozen times in a year and a half. I can eat anything I want, I may not be able to eat more that a few bites of steak, or bread, but that's all I need to satisfy me. I wish you the best in whatever route you choose!

FYI - 3 days ago I had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy by Dr. Tom Lavin.

Read the article about POSE.Seems like a pretty slick procedure. The doctors also do something similar when a patient stretches out their pouch with the roux n y procedure. That corrective procedure I believe is called The ROSE procedure.Whereby doctors go through the mouth and down the esophagous to the pouch and tighten it up

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
