Painful Fill???

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had a fill that was painful? :cry My Dr. did my second fill today and it was very painful. She explained that the port can move a bit and she is very cautious and not willing to go near the tubing, which I like, but the fill was very painful. This is my second fill and the first was no pain at all.

What have other people experienced with fills? And if they are painful do they get better once you lose weight? My Dr. said that will make a difference.

I've had 3 uneventful fills/unfills. My surgeon gives me a bit of Lidocaine (small needle) to numb the area and I don't feel a thing...

I've had a total of 6 fills, 1 unfill and for the most part they have been pain free. The 2nd fill was painful because the other doctor who didn't know where to look for my port actually stuck me in my stomach and that hurt!

I am still scared of needles and I tense up everytime and wonder why I did this to myself but after it's over, I'm back to my senses.

The only problem I have had was a couple of weeks ago when I had my deflation. The nurse missed twice :) and got it right the 3rd time. I went today and had a fill and the tech got it on the first try! :clap2: I was so happy for that!!! But other than that, I have had uneventul fills...no problems and no pain.:biggrin1:

I just had my first one on Tuesday and it was harder than I expected. But I'm weird because I have a long spinal fusion with a lot of hardware in there to stablize it. Because of that the doc had a really hard time seeing exactly where my port is even with the fluoroscope. He had to jab me 3 times and I have a big black and blue spot. Not his fault, though. Didn't hurt much but the pressure felt really odd.

Gentle Spirit....I wonder if pain is the best way to discribe it......There was a lot of pressure and some odd feelings. I also have a big black and blue spot, and a bigger needle hole from them "fishing around in the port for the right spot" my terms not theirs. that is just what it felt like to me. My first fill was fine.

Julie....my Dr does not require liquids for a week. That would be hard as I do not have much if any restriction yet.

I will have to ask about being numbed first. She does not do that and I don't think if they went as well as the first one that it would be needed, but the second one was just not fun!!!

OUCH! I just got filled for the first time in a year. It hurt bad! The Dr. said that because of the weight loss my port had moved so he had to sort of twist it. I have been in major pain every since this afternoon. I am actually wondering if I have overfilled.......

My stomach was not used to the manipulation - that is for sure - after a year!

My first fill was an ordeal for me. It kind of hurt. Not the needle so much, but the poking, rolling, pinching, pressing, and prodding was a little much. I felt kind of beat up when it was all over. My doc was training a new technician and first one, then the other had to find my port through my portliness. I hope it gets easier and that was with fluoro. I was so tense that I only got half the amount they thought I should have. Nothing was going down. The barium sat there like a rock. My next fill will be blind. With luck I'll get some lidocaine. Good stuff, I remember it from my C-section. Like a bee sting, a good bee sting, cold, sharp, and keeps you from feeling the needles so big they could be straws.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
