K, so I've been approved for a paniculectomy and I'm scheduled for July 13... I'm debating and researching this. My surgeon who did my band is gonna be doing the paniculectomy. I've lost 75 lbs. with the band and I'm completely satisfied. I'm at 145lbs. My doctor asked me if I wanted to get rid of the excess fat and I'm like sure, if the insurance is covering it why not? I'm ok with it or without it and currently trying to make a decision. Any insight would be helpful.

I'd get the fat removed too, if you don't have to pay.

Good job!

I would in a heartbeat if insurance covered it! But if it doesn't bother you, that is entirely up to you! Good luck with your decision.

Is he a plastic surgeon?

Good Question! Its not often that a surgeon has two such different specialties but if he's good and it is covered, go for it!

Well my doc is technically a general surgeon... But he done my lap band and they have been wonderful to me. Right now I am 1wk 3 days post op panni. Doing good and looking great! Lost 5lbs of extra skin and fat.

Congrats on your loss and decision for the surgery... how is your recovery going? I had a panni and Lipo done, but am still in pain. I have had lots of Fluid build up, any complications for you?

I'm curious about this as well. In fact, the whole reason I had WLS was BECAUSE I wanted a panniculectomy. After 7 pregnancies (5 deliveries) at "advanced maternal age" and a haphazard emergency c-section with the last one, I've had a lot of troubles with the pannos. My insurance has 3 criteria for the surgery. I met the first 2 but the 3rd one is WLS. It forced me to realize that indeed I was a "fat girl". It was a bittersweet moment..... depressing that I had let this happen to myself.... and sweet because this has been the best journey for me. But with the c-section, because of excessive amniotic Fluid and cardiomyopathy, I wound up with a pulmonary embolism. My fear in getting the panniculectomy is wondering if I will be putting myself at risk for another blood clot. I'm curious to know how your recovery is going and what type of incision is done.

I say, let them take all the fat they will.

If you change your mind, I bet you know how to get it back.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
