Recovery After Band Is Removed

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions about the recovery time after having your band out, what is it like? My Dr said it's the same as when the band went in. I was out of work for almost 2 weeks. I was hoping to go back the Monday after. My surgery is on a Wednesday . My other question is how long after the surgery do you have to wait before you can have sex? If any of you have any answers that would be good.

Yes I'm having some major issues. I have precancer cells that they food in my stomach. The walls around my band are thinking, which has caused my band too be very tight. ( I have nothing in the band) I am not able to eat and keep it down. Almost everything comes back up,

I am having similar symptoms. I have no Fluid in the band, I can not keep hardly anything down. I also have acid reflux and heartburn too much. I am having surgery in the morning. My dr is going to remove the band, hopefully repair a hiatal hernia and if he can put another band in place. More than likely he will not be able to put in the new band. I wish you all the best and hope the cancer cells are removed and that you get healthy..

I haven't had my band removed yet but I am expecting to be off work longer than the insertion simply because I am 2 years older. I think it depends on what you do at work: I sit mostly so I was only off for a couple of days; surgery was on a Friday and I went in to work half a day on the following Tuesday. I am planning on a full week this time.

I think you should give your body more time to adjust this time. (You had your band inserted a month before I did.)

May I ask what your reasons are for having it removed? I'm just curious. Everyone seems to have different reasons.

Wow, I am sorry to hear of your troubles. I have been having problems with my lapband for the last few years. I had it put in 4.5 years ago and am down about 100 pounds, but for the last 3 years have really struggled. I have some erosion in my esophagus and major reflux issues. I just went in for an emergency deflation yesterday. It gets really tight every few months and then I wake up throwing up and I have to go in for deflation. I have been worried that it could turn in to something more serious.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
