8 Mos Post Op Need Buddy

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am 8 months post off OP and have only lost about 30 lbs. Looking for a buddy that has worked through slow weight loss frustration along the same time frame. Looking for pointers on what jump started you out of slow loss, how you can tell good restriction vs just bad food choices, etc. I am almost to the point of having the band removed because I am still using the same weight loss tools as before surgery...counting calories, using fat burning supplements, etc. I've got the battle scars...just don't feel like it was worth it.

Your best buddy should be your nutritionist/dietician. Treat him/her like your shrink or your minister. Tell them all that you eat, drink and they will help guide you through this.

My doctor has a nutritionist who only works with bariatric patients. If I slide again, I'll be back in a session with her you can be sure.

what are you doing on a daily basis to take care of the new you?

I agree with TMF, you need to use your doc and nutritionist! they want to help and they do understand the frustrations.

have you looked at the posts in the nutrition area of this forum?

for myself, I try to change up my exercise, add more walking etc. I also try to keep my carbs low, under 65 a day. for me, it is hard. I do not eat bread. I eat more veggies than fruit. I drink a lot of Water, sometimes 10 or more glasses each day.

my weight loss has been very slow lately, I only lose 1 lb. per week. I am just happy that I am still going in the right direction! the thing that has helped me get through this slow time is the inches I have lost. I am now wearing a size 12. I would not have believed it if I didn't try on clothes at the store.

I am happy to help, if I can. you have no info on profile to tell me where you are at with weight? fill out your info, add a pic, get a ticker. thanks

I am not even losing one lb per week. Not sure if it is my docs office or not, but I feel like they are all about the money. I used to vp in monthly for fills and eval. when I hit a plateau, they suggested I tOo to the nutritionist and have my metabolism checked, but at an additional charge. In my opinion, if I need to see the nutritionist as part of my post OP planning, it should not be more money. On too of that, the nurse told.me that if my metabolism is slow, it did not matter how much or how little I eat, the weight is not going to come off without massive exercise. Which leads me back to thinking....why wouldn't they run those tests before surgery so I could have made an informed decision. I did my research prior to surgery, however, none of the studies or material mentioned slow metab being a HUGE issue. Basically, I am scarred from the surgery....did not find out I keloid until post OP. So those "tiny" scars that everyone has turned into HUGE scars on my stomach, and I am still ,counting calories and Varna, with very little self control. The main reason I under went this surgery. Disappointed.

Not everybody has a nutritionist/dietician.

I have to pay my nutritionist and it's worth it. No offense Roro but it sounds to me like you're searching for reasons to fail. If you want to succeed you'll need to speak to a professional who can work you through this plateau.

A nurse is not a dietician/nutritionist. No nutritionist would tell you you can't lose weight without exercise. It's much harder of course. Exercise is an important component to losing weight with the band but simple math would tell you that if you only take in 1300 calories a day and your body burns 2000/day, you should be losing 4 lbs month. Throw in a plateau and maybe 2-3 lbs a month. If you keep it off, isn't it worth it?

The band is a tool. It won't do everything for you and most of us have our own method of tracking how much food or calories we consume. You must have misunderstood someone if you believe the band will do it all. Exercise, good food choices and eating a low carb/calorie diet is the road to slimmer times.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
