I was banded on Monday June 4 2012. I am on Clear Liquids until Monday and I am soooo hungry. My stomach will not stop growling. Anybody else dealing with this?

You're not alone! My dietitian told me I wouldn't be hungry after my surgery, but she was wrong. I was hungry starting on day 2, and clear liquids didn't do much to help. But there are some very good reasons for following the liquid diet, and I've just posted an LBT Magazine article about how to survive the liquid diet that might help you. Check it out here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/page/index.html/_/healthy-living/food-nutrition/how-to-survive-your-liquid-diet-r69

Hang in there!

keep sipping liquids as often as possible. I was not hungry for many, many days after the surgery (I also had a hiatal hernia repair).

try to walk too, it will help when the shoulder pain comes. this too shall pass, trust what the docs told you to do, it is sooooo worth it!

It's true. I thought I wouldn't be hungry after the surgery but I was. It was hard. I was told not to drink Water. You need some calories in you for energy. Try drinking warm skim milk. Diluted fruit juice. Gatorade. Sugarfree Jello. The worst part for me were the stomach cramps I would get in the middle of the night. My surgeon said it was gas due to the way I was drinking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
