Day After Surgery Question?

Recommended Posts

I am being banded on the 18th at 12pm. My husband is taking me, but he has a really important meeting the next day so he will not be able to stay home with me the day after. When the surgery center called me with my date and time, she said I needed someone to drive me home, but also to stay with me for the next 48 hours. My son is almost 13 and has actually offered to stay home that day. Do you guys think that would be okay? Do I just need someone around that could call for help? Please let me know what you think.

It would be good to have someone with you. My biggest problem was getting out of bed and without my husband I would have had to stay in bed. Other than that I didn't need help with anything.

The reason they want someone to stay with you is because you mat need help. But most importantly in case something goes wrong and you have to be rushed to the hospital. So no I don't think your 13 year old will do you much help in that sense. You need to have an adult with you. I am sure you have a friend of family member that can stay with you for that day or 2 days.

Thanks you guys, and yes I have several friends who would gladly stay with me while me husband is at work. I just hated to ask if I am going to be resting most of the time. But I will get someone to come over during the day.

i stayed overnight at the hospital and my dad drove me home the next day by 1pm. I was fine by myself (luckily), but of course you never know what could happen.

I did a lot of napping day two. I slept on the couch so I had an easier time getting up and down. I would think as long as you feel confident your kid would be able to call 911 and able to communicate with them that would be fine.

I was banded 5/29 and can say day 2 was mostly sleeping. I would say have a big container of your water/ crystal light near by and you will be fine. If your 13 year old is around I am sure he can help you getting things or call an adult friend or 911 in an emergency. I think you will be fine but of course you know your situation best. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
