How Long Has It Been Since You've Seen Your Doc?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 years out from surgery. I've not loss half my weight, yet. Had some minor issues, but now resolved. I feel restriction and am doing Jazzercize. My doc will stop dealing with WLS patients at the end of this year. I loved my doc, but am disappointed with his decision, even though it was not completley his decision to do this. (his partner bailed on him) My question is: do I need to go ahead and find another doc now? I am /will be self-pay. I don't want to have to go in unless I really need to. . . . . .sigh. Thanks, in advance, for any input.

I would find a new doc right away, because I suspect it's going to be a process not only finding one but getting all your records sent to the new office. Then, while you're in the transitional period between offices, you can still see your current one for follow-up and a fill if necessary.

Statistically speaking, people who follow up with their surgeons regularly after surgery seem to do better than those that don't. Their guidance is important and they can help to catch issues when they're still small, rather than after they've become huge issues.

Best of luck to you.

Def start lookin it can be harder then you think to find a new one especially since a lot of them do not like to do your fills unless.they banded you

I haven't seen my doc in 18 months, having reached my sweet spot then. I would go ahead and find another doc now in case a problem or question arises you will have been proactive and ready to go. Good luck!

Most doctors refer their patients to another doctor when they close their office? Did yours?

And, will he not continue to see you if you are self pay? Maybe he's just getting out from under the burden of hundreds of patients who have already paid at time of surgery and now they are consuming his practice hours at no cost?

Your Dr. should give you a referral. Not easy to find one on your own start now..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
