bandtastic 0 Posted March 8, 2006 OK... i am kinda new to the band thing... First Fill was 2/22/06. I am still trying to figure out what i can eat and not eat. It is a lil frustrating right now. But I am loosing weight. I feel like dinner is a sore subject for me. I seem to get sick alot. I don't want to stretch my stomach or slip my band or do anything harmful. BUt I feel like I need to eat and I am SOOOOOOOO hungry. ANyway after I eat sometimes I get "slime" and then the Hicups... does anyone else have hicups every day? Seems strange to me! thanks for your responses in advanced...
leatha_g 4 Posted March 8, 2006 Yep.. hiccups, one BIG hiccup, sudden runny nose, sudden bout of sneezing.. all signs of your band saying WHOA!! one more bite and you may be sorry..
bandtastic 0 Posted March 8, 2006 thats so interesting... thanks... I have been having a hard time on knowing when to stop... thank you!!!! Are there anymore good hints on "know when to say no" hehehehe All addicitions are the same aren't theY!
leatha_g 4 Posted March 8, 2006 Many many more good hints.. read, read, read all you can on this forum. There is much experience shared here, all free for the taking! Early on, the rule of thumb is no more than 1 cup, Protein first, then veggies, anything else IF you still have room. Try not to eat too long at a sitting. 20 minutes and go do something else. Good luck!
lovecats85 2 Posted March 8, 2006 I never had hiccups before my last fill but now I get them alot, I think it's from eating too fast.
cashley 0 Posted March 8, 2006 I've been getting them and I haven't even had my first fill yet. I know I eat too fast and I'm trying so hard to learn. It's a sure sign when I get the hiccups. It's my bodies way of saying "Slow the #$*@ down"
Monica S 1 Posted March 8, 2006 I get hiccups every day since being banded, usually after I drink something (anything!). I have never heard the connection between hiccups and PBs. What's up with that? I hiccup after I have a sip of Water in the morning, but I don't have any tightness or discomfort. Why do the hiccups happen?
bandtastic 0 Posted March 8, 2006 Well I know hicups have to do with your diaphram (sp) which is directly under your stomach. When I was post op i had a little discomfort when i had a shortness of breath but it went away when i healed. But it was because I was swallon and my diaphram was being affected by that. Hicups are not the end of the world but they are annoying for sure. :-)
Monica S 1 Posted March 9, 2006 I thought hiccups had to do with your epiglottis flapping (the flap at the back of your throat that closes the entrance to your windpipe when you swallow). I don't understand what they have to do with your stomach.
leatha_g 4 Posted March 9, 2006 in banding, those hiccups definitely are a sign of your diaphragm letting you know either slow down or you are full. i notice a difference in the intensity of the hiccup.. often it's ONE BIG hiccup.. or a short burst of very intense hiccups. they aren't necessarily correlated to PBing, unless you continue to eat too quickly or continue to eat at all if they're signaling you to stop. you'll learn to 'listen' to your signs.. and most anyone here can tell you the hiccups are definitely a sign...
