I get to start solids this weekend. I was wondering has anybody had an issue eating salad? I want a salad so badly but I don't want to mess myself up. I know this is all trial and error. Just wanna know how anyone else has tolerated it.

Thanks :)

I eat salads all the time. I usually eat them with no dressing at all, just salt and pepper, but sometimes use Light Basalmic Vinagrette. I just add 1/2 a grilled chicken breast so I get my protien as well. Good luck to you!

Ditto for me. I add a little olive oil to mine and sometimes I'll use a yogurt dressing or some italian low cal dressing. Salads are a slider food for me but they are filling. I've found that I crave salads much more now than before band. Cucumbers, radishes, red onions, spinach seem to satisfy me much more than before. We eat a salad for dinner about 5 days a week. Sometimes by itself and sometimes with shrimp or chicken or salmon.

I think I love them mostly because it's a safe food. No sticking and very nutritious.

Muelle,

I looked at your profile and you should post some before and after pictures? 5' 5" and 114? That's is so awesome. So many of us give up within 20 lbs of our goal. Was the last 30 lbs hard to lose?

My dr recommended waiting 3 months, I waited 2 months. I do prefer spring mix salads now with softer greens.

Aint it the truth! I can eat an entire chicken breast one nite and a few days later I'm at the sink sliming my guts out after just 3 bites. I only got stuck once with salads and that was due to me stuffing my face too quickly with far too much food. Advice, don't wait till you're starving to sit down and eat. If you gobble any food, it's gonna hurt.

What do you mean by 'sliming'??

Most of us go through a period where we finally get enough restriction that some foods get stuck for a few minutes before passing through the band to the lower stomach. It can happen with most any food but mostly meats and breads. The food doesn't pass through immediately and as we pile on other food behind it, the pressure on the lining on the stomach causes the stomach to secrete a lot of mucous(to help slip the food through) that resembles slime like the slime in Ghostbusters? Or, it could resemble colorless hair gel too. But we call it slime therefore the word sliming or slimming?

If you are sliming you are probably in a little discomfort and maybe pain from the pressure in your chest. If you are new to the band, someday you will know slime.

I ate salad fine before my last fill. I tried a salad a couple of days ago and it was a no-go!! I agree with not waiting until you're starving before you eat, that's the time I always get in trouble!

When my pouch and throat and mouth are instantly filled with thick insane amounts of spit that wont stop until im instuck.. Im talkin thick weird spit (like on big daddy when the little boy has ketchup spit thay he can dangle half way to the ground then suck it back up..) Sometimes it pours out like a fire hose.. I asked the doc about it and he told me its our bodies nattural response to choking so if you were actually choking your body sends out a signal to make this insanley thick gooey spit to help unlodge the stuck item.. Well occasionally something sitting in my pouch causes it to think im choking.

I love salad but I can't eat it too early in the day or I'm too tight. Very often I eat them for dinner. I put in chick peas, cucumber, a little sunflower seed hearts, and top it with fat free ranch dressing. I'll also buy the precooked cubed ham at the store and put a couple ounces of that in too for some Protein. Yummm!

I can truly say if salad would go down I could eat it everyday twice a day because there are so many things you can do with a salad so many great veggie choices and ways to add protien..

No problem here either....just need to chew and chew. That was the one thing I told my doctor that I didn't want to do without. They are a vital component to me being sucessful. I think if I went in for a fill and couldn't eat them any more....they would have to take the fill back out. I eat them so often and they make keeping my calories low easier.

Just take it slow the first time...and make sure to chew. Maybe start with a small one first.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
