Are you doing a high Protein low carb diet? Most likely the reason. My Dr. wanted me on this kind of diet. I have choosen a balanced diet of all food groups and am still losing weight. It might not be as fast but its what works fo me.

I dont know what your dr will say about an unfill but I would consider it. My good friend has a lap band, she had to have a hystorectomy. She did not get an unfill but then got sick after the proceedure (she never was sick in all previous proceedures). She threw up so many times she had a major band slippage and has to now have a proceedure to fix it. She had to unfill and now has gained 30 lbs back waiting for insurance approval for the fix.

I think some dont get an unfill but it seems like a gamble to me. I also totally understand not wanting to get one b/c it takes so long to get to green and the fear of regaining. It is a personal call you have to make with your Dr. Good luck!

You will feel so much better after the gall bladder is gone. I had mine out and felt like a new woman. However, it was before band.

As I understand it from my internal medicine doctor, gallbladder inflammation and/or gall stones may result from rapid weight loss. Someone I know told me that years ago when they had the original gastric bypass surgery, it was routine for the doctor to screen the gall bladder for any signs of stones or inflammation at the time of the surgery. The gallbladder would be removed if there were any signs of a problem, because it is so common for rapid weight loss and gallbladder issues to coincide.

Though gallbladder issues could be a result of high cholesterol diets, the type of healthy Proteins we are supposed to eat should not raise cholesterol levels. Definitely any diet recommended by your surgeon should contain healthy Proteins and carbs, along with FF SF options, none of which should contribute to gallstones.

There are certain ethnic groups who are predisposed to develop gallstones, and women tend to have a 20% higher incidence then men for gallstones.

I am currently undergoing tests to determine if I also need to have my gallbladder removed. Please be certain to post what you find out about having the band unfilled...I'm interested to know also!

Best wishes on your continued journey...BTW, I'm told by others who have had their gallbladder removed that it is not too difficult of a procedure to recover from!

I had my gallbladder out about 6 months after my banding. It is pretty common due to the rapid weight loss.

Didn't set me back at all- had my surgery on a Friday and was back in the gym by sunday

Had my gall bladder out after I lost 100 pounds when I was 18. In general the phrase used to describe those likely to have gall bladder problems is Female, Forty, Fat and Fertile. Cut out as much fat from your diet as you can becuase eating foods high in fat causes attacks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
