Staying Patient While Waiting For Restriction

Recommended Posts

So I had my first fill on 5/24. My Dr's. office is so conservative! I received 1cc, and won't go back until 6/28 for another 1 cc. Part of me is annoyed hearing stories of people complaining about only get 3cc. After the second fill I was told they would drop down to .5 cc. At this point it will probably take at least 4 months before I get close to restriction. I don't know if I talked to them anything would change either. Anyone else in the same situation??

Hi M...I'm right there with you!! I was banded 11/9/11. Have had only 2 fills so far :( I feel no restriction yet at all. I've lost 30 lbs...most in the first 2 months. Getting a bit frustrated as well. I got the band because I need the help/tool. I'm an emotional eater and so far the band hasn't helped me...was looking forward to the restriction stopping me from eating too much. I have an appointment tomorrow with my doc. He has told me in the past that he likes to wait a good 6 months before really filling up so that the stomach is all healed. I get that but my concern is my overeating and the damage that could cause. I'm confused, worried and a bit scared. I desperately want to find that sweet spot...or at least feel some restriction. I know it's different for everyone and I'm trying to be patient.

I hope you get some restriction from this fill and get another soon! I feel your pain :) Keep us posted.

Take care, Deb

Wow, doctors' philosophies are soooo different. I was banded on January 31, 2012 and had my third fill which resulted in restriction on March 7. Due to scheduling problems on my end, my post op fills were scheduled a little bit closer together than his average, but not by much. Since the first 90 days of office visits and fills are included in his surgery cost, he believes in getting the band working as quickly as possible. I like a doctor that is not just seeing $$ signs when he sees me!

Do what the hay am I supose to do with this thing in me that isn't helping at all, I'm hungry and very afraid because Everytime that I've lost wieght just to gain it all back then a bunch more , so afraid of this happing . I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
