I am a nurse practitioner and am planning lapband in May. I have a BMI of 37 with comorbidities. I have failed every diet/diet pill and am not taking this step lightly. The last time I was at an ideal weight was kindergarten so I have no idea what it would be like to be in a healthy BMI range. I would love to hear from other bandsters with lower BMI's (weird to call it low BMI when it is still severly obese)! Thanks.

My BMI is around 37. I did not start gaining weight until after I was injured and left the Army after Desert Storm. Since then I have gained over 70 pounds and have high cholesterol and triglycerides. With the co-morbidities my surgeon did not even question my lower than 40 BMI. He did his exam, answered my questions, and asked me when I wanted to have it done. I do not have a date yet, but it should be soon.

Good Luck.

I started with a BMI of 38. I had some things I guess you could consider co-morbidities: knee problems, back pain, a hiatal hernia and GERD. I think doctors don't care if you have co-mobid issues as long as you are self-pay (like me). Always been the "big boned girl", my weight loss has been slow, but slow and steady so that's good, right. Good luck to you!
