I had my surgery almost 2 years ago and I have been at the same weight since May 2011. Since then I vomit atleast 2 or 3 days a week with no rhyme or reason. I have a hard time eating meats, rice, breads, some times lettuce, spagetti, just to name a few. I have went back to my dr. and he removed my fill and it still didn't help. When I talked to my dr. he looks at me like I am crazy, but I am not. My husband and I feel that this isn't normal. Sometimes all I can do is to drink coffee or hot tea which seems to make me feel better.

Please help....

You may be eating too fast. When you eat carbs such as bread or rice, it basically starts to grow in your tummy. Try chewing many times before you swallow and take very tiny bites. Sometimes, people just have a stronger gag reflex than others do. Because the lap band restricting, your gag reflex just might be very touchy. Unfortunately, for some people, the lap band is not right for them and it needs to be removed.

Would you say that you have a touchy gag reflex? For example..do you gag when you smell something nasty? Or do you gag if you eat too much (before the lap band)

Thanks for responding to me. I don't think I have a touchy gag reflex, I thinking that maybe it something else. It appears that sometimes food goes down fine and there is other times that food stays in my throat. It feels like I am a cow because I regurgiate food.

Did your dr remove all your Fluid in your band? Sounds like you need to have an upper GI done to check out what's going on with the band. I would hate to have such a great tool removed if it's something that can be fixed.

Do you mesure your food ? I was having the same problem and my Dr said to measure my food by volume not weight because I was eating too much and it was just sitting there and causing me to throw up all the time. I followed his advice and it seems to help

I have not eaten bread since my lap band and the only Pasta I find I can sometimes eat is orzo

I'm still fairly new to this (still on soft foods) but I thought the foods you mentioned were not considered "band friendly". The most common foods I have seen people have trouble with are breads, rice and Pasta. Did you ever have a nutritional consult?

If and when (hardly ever) because i an learning that I can't eat bread, rice, or Pasta, I would end up sliming and throwing up. Of course these are not on the list to eat, so I avoid these. Plus these foods are what got me fat in the first place. I noticed that I do better on a low carb diet with no slider foods, plus low cal sweeteners only. It's tough and I have episodes but also know I eat too fast, too big of bites, and don't chew as well. These all are skills I have to constantly remind myself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
