Just to say hi...and why am I burping!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone from Oz. My name is Alan. I am 10 days post op and 12kg lighter (thanks to Optifast and liquid diets).

I am finding that I have wind (gas/cholic) that builds up during the day and by dinner time I am in pain. Can anyone tell me why and or suggest a solution beside quick eze and Gas tablets??

Here's to the rest of my life. Happy slimming and good luck to all.

Walking is really the best way to keep things moving in one direction or the other. :) Gas-x didn't work for me... only walking helped.

when your banded they blow you up with gas apperently to help make space inside you to work. this can take a few days or so to go, I didnt suffer from it but I know plenty who have for a couple of weeks then it leaves.

good luck

Hi AlanT & G'day all :)

I'm from Adelaide and had my surgery close to 4 weeks now. I suffered greatly with wind/gas and it was painful for 3 weeks. I can't explain why, except we are eating differently, our stomaches are different inside and its all an adjustment I suppose. My dr told me to take Mylanta it worked a treat. Mylanta absorbs the gas and eases the pain. I'm still burping/belching with meals and sometimes I have no control over it and the belching just rolls out. Nice to meet all you fellow aussies and Good Luck on your banding Journeys :girl_hug:

I had pain starting on day 5. I tried so much but ended up using a combination of hot shower, hot packs, quick eze and peppermint tea. For about 4 weeks post op my stomach was extremely noisy the rumblings were going on big time. Now 5 months post op I only burp when I have had trouble with a particular food and find walking around helps that but it is a rare thing these days.

Hi: When we have to chew so much longer we tend to swallow more air, much like a baby on a bottle. That's why you burp a baby. I was given a suggestion to breathe out when swallowing and I find this works as I don't want to be burped (lol).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
