Just Got Home From My First Fill...afraid To Eat.

Recommended Posts

So i was a little anxious about getting my first band fill..it wasnt nearly as bad as I expected..a little pinch from the needle and that was it. Doc said i can eat solids today (i assumed i had to do liquids for cpl days) since i couldnt eat solids this morning before procedure, i am no doubt hungry. I am hesitant tho, becausse now that i should have restriction..(4 cc's) the fear of getting stuck has consumed me.

I will however, make an attempt..im cooking up one fillet of Gortons Lemon Pepper fillet. its 3.5 oz, so according to doc i shouldnt be able to eat it all (3 wks after surgery i was able to eat 2 of them and still feel hungry...so it will be amazing if i cant finish 1)

I am excited tho to see how the fill changes things for me, and to see the added pounds I will lose by finally filling full for once.

as long as you eat slowly like always, you won't have any trouble! I have only had a "stuck" situation 3 or 4 times, chicken was the culprit!

I do have to say, it's better to be safe than sorry!

My doctor says 48 hours of creamy liquids. I love cream of chicken Soup.

Baked fish should work for you, its pretty mushy after you chew it.

For me, the first few fills didn't provide a lot of restriction. It wasn't until my band was half full that I really felt a difference. Thats just me.

Just finished eating the fish. I was able to eat the whole fillet..but am definitely satisfied and for the first time since surgery, i dont feel hungry when im done eating, its a great feeling lol. im gonna stick with soft mushier stuff, (eggs, cream Soup, fish) for the first few days, til i see how im reacting to that stuff before jumping into the chicken or pork.

going for my 6th fill today. im hoping i will finally hit the green zone. i have only had medium restriction, but still havent done too bad. im down 37 lbs since December 13, 2011 and still hoping to break this 4 week long plateau of 188 lbs. Try soft gentle foods for a day or two to see if you get stuck, i find white bread or potatoes, or dry chicken are the most difficult. good luck to you !

My Dr always says remember 1 day liquids 2 days soft after every fill. chicken is impossible and bread is not going to happen I get stuck every time.. I use my Magic Bullet on steak, roast or pork, when I get really hungry for those things. I eat lots of fish. I am at half restriction, and I find that I can eat about 1/2 of anything I put on my plate and Believe me I am no longer a member of the clean plate club. Thats what led to the Band in the first place.

I had my post-op visit and first fill today too! I'll be three weeks out tomorrow and had 3.5 cc placed in my 12cc band. I've been a little hesitant to eat since I got home, but I missed lunch because of my appointment and I'm hungry! My doctor wants me to do liquids today, pureed tomorrow and then back to solids on Wednesday.

P.S. I'm down 6# since my surgery. Not a lot, but almost 10% of my total weight loss goal. And it's down, not up. Small positive changes every day! I'm getting excited again. :)

I found that 4cc brought me decent satiety and restriction of portions (not foods). I think I need 1cc more to be perfect.

Please keep me posted. I have my first fill the 15. I am REALLY nervous about it. Scared about pain and about throwing up.

Sandy,

Fills don't really hurt. You should not be vomitting with the band. Vomitting is very very bad for the band. Knock on wood I am almost 2 years out and have never PB'd or vomitted. If your band is so tight that eating healthy solid Proteins is not possible it is too tight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
