Need To Find The Motivation

Recommended Posts

I need to add more exercise back in my routine. It will be easier since kids get out of school for summer Thursday and I can concentrate on myself a little more again. I need to remember putting myself last got me where I was before surgery and I don't want to go back there!

Find some fun things to do with the kids that way you can enjoy their holidays and work out at the same time :)

@Dacoop, I am not an exercise fan. I have severe arthritis in my left hip and my right hip was replaced years ago. I found an exercise machine that I can actually do without having 'pain'. It is actually fun and NOOO impact on my joints. Its called the Gazelle Edge trainer. Not expensive like all those other machines, easy to use, and easy to storage away. I like to watch tv while on my machine or I listen to my itunes. You should go check it out!

I found it at Walmart.com for a mere $99

Could you bring the kids to a pool and let them swim while you do Water aerobics? Admittedly I could care less what people think of me while I exercise.

Not a cyclist but if your kids are old enough to bike (esp. on bike trails) that could be a good form of execise.

Swimming is a great idea! who doesn't love the Water and you get to use every single muscle moving around water. You don't have to swim laps, just move move move in the water. I walk in the water back in forth in a 25 yard swimming length pool for a half hour non stop. I don't force myself hard to do this, just walk and keep moving. I also use their boards and keep it in front of me with my arms stretched out and flap my feet to one length of the pool. Water areobics are great and you may find your town offers that, if not get yourself into a local swimming pool. Low impact and the water always feels great!

I hear ya. I'm struggling to get back on the horse after surgery. I just bought a new workout DVD I am going to try today and signed up for a belly dance class. Could you sign up for something fun like Zumba? Bring a friend! Also something as simple as downloading some fun workout songs helps.

I'll tell ya....I hate to exercise. That is, before I go. I drag my rear end down to the gym for 30 minutes or so, five days a week. Even that little bit makes me feel so much better. It takes a while to develop a habit, twenty one days is what the experts say.

Its great to find an activity to do with your kids, but, its also good to have some "me" time, even if it is exercise, ha ha.

You can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
