I'll be one of the last because my surgery date isn't until the 29th but I start my pre-op diet in two weeks and I know I'm going to need support. Anybody want some buddies?

A bit about me, I'm 35 years old, nearly 300 pounds and done every diet out there - finally saved up enough to get the surgery and can't wait for my "life" to start. Several friends have done bypass or banding and they are all in their 50s and 60s and I just feel like I need to take care of me now instead of waiting another 20 years. I have a hubby, two kids (9 girl, 6 boy) and keep thinking there might be more but certainly won't be if I can't lose weight.

Look forward to meeting the rest of you, I'd love someone to talk to and go through this with. Haven't even told my banded friends I'm doing it, only hubby know so far and I don't know why I am nervous to tell. Oh yeah and I live in Utah.

Me in a nutshell, what about you?

Got banded on June 4th.

Started at 302 and between the preop diet and postop diet, I've lost 12 pounds so far. Still a long way to go.

Still a bit of pain after surgery from the air blown into the stomach cavity pressing on some nerve going to the shoulder but it's getting better each day. ^_^

Age 22 years old. Live in NY.

Can't wait to feel more healthy! <3

I started at 302 also and my surgery was also on June 4th. I was put on a very strict liquid diet. However since the surgery I have not lost anymore weight...hopefully I will start losing again. I'm still on a strict diet but not as strict as before the surgery. My calorie intake is under 1000 cal.

Hello,

I am 38 and started at 280. I started the liquid diet on June 13 and had surgery on June 20. Day of surgery, I had lost 10 lbs. So far, I have lost a pound a day. Yesterday (Friday) was the day I could move to creamier liquids. I can't tell you how good cream of chicken Soup tasted. I just had my dinner bowl an hour ago and I was like this gets better and better.

I have PCOS and have been trying to have a baby for 6 yrs with no success. Depression and heartache of failed infertility treatments I gained 100 lbs. Now I'm too big to get pregnant. Well that's a story for another day.

A lot of us have had PCOS. I hope it will get better for you soon. My dr. actually told me that if I wasn't on bc I needed to start if I didn't want to get pregnant because he said that so many of his patients have "suddenly" become fertile, including a 47 yr old new mom! It gave me hope ;) for maybe a future baby. My heart goes out to you. Glad you're doing so good.

Hello June Buddies, Now that it's July I wanted to comment that we need to stay connected. At this point (July1st) everyone in the "where's my june bandsters" should be! lol! Today is my day 5 for me (6/26) and overall I'm sure I must be healing and getting stronger. Less bouts of severe gas pain today. The only real pain is the intermittent left shoulder pain. NOTHING seems to touch it to decrease intensity when it comes on. I've tried pain relievers like ex str tylenol, ice packs, heating pad, etc) My best description to my husband is to think about the pain and nausea you feel when you've dislocated some part of your body. When pain eases up things aren't so bad, but when it comes on it's EXCRUCIATING! I've been walking a mile or so each day too (very slowly  ) but find eating to be a vicious circle of gas/gurgles if I eat and the same if I don't. Anyone have any ideas for stage 3 liquids that really work for them?

Well, hang in there "Junies" and for goodness sake KEEP IN TOUCH! :D

jdmart7 - it does get better. I think I was around day 10 when it was just a reminding nuisance. Now that I am 14 days past, I feel find and am eating solids. I had my first bout of food getting stuck. It was horrible! However, it really taught me to SLOW DOWN.

Now I am faced with the way I view food and how I should view food. I can easily see how a person can just eat like nothing has changed. Now that my swelling has gone down, I could easily go back to my normal way of eating emotionally. Right now, all I can think about is getting a half a slab of sweet bbq ribs. I'm going to a bbq later on today but I don't want to lose the little progress that I have made.

How is everyone else doing with public enemy number one? I think that at week 6 I will do the south beach diet and hopefully get the ball rolling again. Last time I did south beach I lost 25 pounds in 7 weeks. Maybe with the band, I won't feel like I am missing out on something.

I am still on liquids for a bit but am anxiously awaiting mushies just for variety. I haven't been hungry, mostly just so dang thirsty but that's better too. I can see in 1 weeks time though the big jump from eating nothing to downing 1 cup. Like you said gems, we've got so much to learn so we don't go back to the same way of doing things. The 4th was my most emotional day, because of being around food and not being able to have any. I was a jerk to my family I'm sure and miserable BUT I got through it and today felt fantastic. I think being filled will be a few days like that again. I plan to use the tools the band will give me so that I can still once in awhile eat something I loved but at the same time lose weight, exercise, basically be the healthy me that being overweight has made it hard to do. I will be going back to paleo eating (caveman diet, anything you can hunt or gather) and back to CrossFit as soon as I can. I'm really looking forward to it too - being doing it awhile but now I'll actually have success!! My new motto is going to be 90% - 90% perfect, 10% small indulging knowing the band will force me to keep it small if it's eating, or part of the 10 if I miss an exercise day, etc. I think it's going to be a realistic way to live.

How's everyone doing? It is officially 8 wks for me and I am down 38 lbs. I feel so much better, however I still battle the head hunger. I've had one fill. This is all still new to me. Let's keep in touch and make our goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
