I have tried so many diets like everyone it never worked. That is why I am ready to be banded to help me lose this weight. Just scared for failure. You hear about it so just something I think everyone who has had this surgery has thought at least once.

It's kind of ironic' date=' here we must go on a strict diet to get the weight off... Before surgery. Funny thing is... Isn't that why we get the lapband surgery because we need the tool to help us lose weight???? Just remember to do the best you can to get the weight off. Ok a cheat day and tomorrow a new day to get on track. Before my surgery in 2011, I struggled with the strict diet. I managed to lose before surgery but it was a bear! Keep your eye on the prize!!!!![/quote']

Yep my TSH was 96.5 and my NP said she didn't know how I was even functioning. I am set for Thursday but haven't gotten the clearance yet with that high level (rechecked yesterday after upping my meds). I said the same thing, wouldn't it be ironic if I couldn't get weight loss surgery because my thyroid wasn't working!

So many great replies to this thread...I hope you feel the positive support being sent your way! It's quite normal to experience some anxiety at this point on your journey; because you are aware of the changes in your life which will come with the band.

I looked at the pre op diet as a "test run" for the compliance that I would need to have post op. I had to be on the liquid diet 2 weeks pre op and an additional 2 weeks post op.

Pre op I was allowed a total of 4 Protein shakes a day, and only 3 8-oz cups of skim milk...plus 1 cup of raw salad veggies.

It does help to get in touch with your goals for why you are choosing to have this surgery; we all have our unique reasons in addition to the universal ones which I believe most of us share.

When you have your goals in focus, then keep your "eye on the prize", and keep it there. Take a day at a time, and resolve to do your best everyday to follow your diet and exercise routine.

Congrats to you for taking this step to turn your life around !! Just keep in mind the you that you are working to create for a healthier, longer, better future. I would probably choose the liquid too, just to keep too many choices out of my historically uncapable hands, LOL. The bottom line is you have to get your liver size down for surgery so do what your surgeon says and you'll be just fine. Hugs and prayers for your success !!

Ferocity you will be fine, the first few days are hard but it does get easier, for me it has so far and I've just completed my first week of the preop diet. Still have three weeks to go. The first few days you will be in withdrawal, just drink lots of Water and stay busy and rest when you can. Just keep an image in your mind of a smaller you in months to come and it will all be so worth it! Oh and only one week on this preop diet and I feel like I have so much more energy, no junk bogging my body down!

I see the nutritionist the 25th not the 23rd. Two more days than what I was thinking :( I am excited though my mom has a appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday. I know I will have my surgery first but in the end we will be going through the journey together. Once my nutritionist sends in my paper work on the 25th my surgeons office said I should hear back from then in about a week. There is so much support on this site! I am so glad to be able to asking any question and be able to read everybody’s journey.

Thanks everyone

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
