Today is the first day of my pre-op diet and this afternoon I was feeling good about it, but tonight when everyone else is eating real food, I'm feeling hungry..tho I know it's head hunger it's strong nonetheless. I just want pizza, is that too much to ask? I'm not cheating but man, do I want to... I'm so weak, hope I don't screw this up. How have some of u done it for 1-2 weeks? Pat ur selves on the back cause I seriously doubt I could go that long!

Wyldlove,

It will be tough for a little while, but ultimately NOTHING will taste better than you will feel as the pounds melt away! You will learn to control your urges and also understand the full signals from your band. Stay focused you are almost there!!

don't cheat you were too close! I c k just think it will be so hard on you because my 12 year old son has fatty livers disease and he's on a diet so that would be really good for both of us. I'm going to change the way whole family eats.

I've had the pre-op diet blues too. I'm going on my 4th day tomorrow, had a bout the first night where I almost passed out when my blood sugar dropped. I will admit I have cheated and ate 2 lite string cheeses when I felt like passing out again. Got until the 13th to do this diet, well that is my surgery date so I guess I will do my last Protein shake on the 12th. Good luck on yours, we can do this!

Every doctor has different "ok" to have on the liquid diet phase. you will be suprized at how you body can adapt if you keep hydrated with water/crystal light and make sure to eat 3 1/2 cup servings of low fat/fat free cottage chesse daily that really helped me from just loosing it you know. You can have all the suggar free pospicles, Jello, green tea, and broths you want. So I always had a warm mug of something in my hand. After day four you will adapt somehat and it won't seem so bad.

When my family set down to eat supper I'd just quietly take a glass of icewater or beverage of choice and go up to my room and read for atleast 30 or so minuittes until I knew that supper was overwith. This is a very hard part of the journey but it's essential for surgery. Trust me hunger will dissapear durring this phase, just keep well hydrated.

Vent away! That's what helped me, but FYI the post op is much easier to follow because you aren't hungry. When my hubby cooks it smells really good but I have no desire to eat anything... Just trying to get the Protein and liquid in is hard enough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
