My fitness pal said I'm only consuming 880 calories a day and that's not enough. But I'm not hungry and don't want to over do it. I had my surgery on May 15th and ny first fill isn't until June 14th. HELP!!!!

I don't pay attention when it says I am not eating enough and going into starvation mode. I love the site though, log my food intake everyday. I also don't pay attention when it say if I ate this way everyday for the next 5 weeks I would weigh 132 pounds....just hasn't happened!

As for the calories, I always confirm they are correct.

If you eat when you are not hungry you will stay/get fat. You need to learn to listen to your body not some site that knows nothing about you.

There are numerous posts regarding this topic...and the instructions also seem to vary by the doctor's practice.

I was advised to never count calories...only to make good choices with foods I eat (not processed, fresh and basic), and strict portion control- 3 oz of Protein and 2 oz of a Fiber carb with every meal. Portions are to be measured by volume, not weight, and only after cooking, if applicable.

I hold myself accountable; no eating, only drinking "free" fluids between meals.

I'd say you are one of the lucky ones if you can always make good choices!

don't pay attention to what myfitnesspal says!

There are two key issues with myfitnesspal.com

1. It's calorie intake recommendations are not intended for bandsters, therefore, if you eat less than 1200 calories a day, it will tell you that you are not eating enough and will go into starvation mode. Follow your medical team's advice on how many calories you should be consuming each day.

2. The calories listed for each food are not necessarily what the packets of food say. Members add foods and nutritional information so they can be incorrect - especially when people list a serving as "one serve" without any guidance on how they determined the size of a serve!

On the other hand, I do use MFP to track my calories in and record my calories burnt to help me stay on track. It is just a case, as HollyDolly says, of confirming calories for yourself where you can. Plus I use a BodyMedia Fit arm band to measure calories burnt.

i was on 600 calories a day for 10 weeks pre-op and i never went anywhere near starvation mode .. if u arent hungry on 800 or so calories then thats fine too.. everyone is different some count calories as that is how we monitor our food, some just eat smaller portions, some just weight everything .. the most important part of this is 'You just do what works for you ' !.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
