elcee 3,341 Posted June 3, 2012 Some people notice hair loss after surgery but not everyone does. A lot of people think it is because they are not getting enough Protein, often it is just a reaction to anaesthesia. I think the most important thing is to eat a well balanced diet with foods from all food groups. If you do lose hair don't worry it will grow back. It is perfectly normal for hair to go through growing and resting phases.
honk 780 Posted June 3, 2012 I did loose hair the first few months out of surgery. I started to take Biotin 5,000 mg and the loss stopped. Not sure if it was the Biotin or that my body recovered from surgery. But since I've always had weak nails I think taking the Biotin is worth it.

Sojourner 2,446 Posted June 3, 2012 You girls have me scared with all the talk of hair loss!! Is this common? What causes it? I have very thin hair as it is, and these freaks me out I was told by the dietitian that if a patient does experience any Hair loss, it likely is a result of not enough Protein. Not everyone will experience some thinning of their hair...I did not have any loss/thinning of my hair. I felt that the risks to my health were greater if I did not have the surgery, than the risk of having a temporary thinning of my hair!
